    HEY!

That IS a redone Great Mazinger! THe one my friend had when we were kids was definitely Mazinger Z then, since it had the two part "V" and bubble ship.

    Neat!

'Course, every time I see pics of these things I can't help but think how cool 8" Mego scaled custom ones would be.

He looks pretty decent. You could probably use a bit of glue to reattach the chest sticker. This third version didn't normally come with stickers on his legs like the earlier version, so it looks like just the red sticker below the gold belt one is missing. Those back scuffs are common on used ones, I have the same thing on my childhood Mazinga. I bet if you spruced him up a bit, took some nice big pics and threw him on ebay with a BIN of $95.00, he would probably sell without much problem. Or gamble with an auction and he might possibly get more (not guaranteed, but you never know with ebay)

The big red sticker on his chest is still there, but it's not mint and it's coming away from the plastic a bit (there's a photo below, so you can see the condition of the sticker). Were there other stickers? If so, I guess they're missing. The missile holders are all in good shape. All 10 missiles are there, but one of them has a break in the white part. It still stays on the red part fine, but it just has a split. There is some scuffing on his back and butt - I guess from pulling him off of the shelf as a kid. I'm the original owner! He's got low mileage and only came out of the garage on Sundays to drive back and forth to church and never over 25 MPH!

Yeah, it was pretty cool. Thanks for throwing the other ones on there too. It's a really nice overdose of Go Nagai giant robot action. Thanks!

With this info, can anyone narrow down what I might be able to get for this guy?

The market really fluctuates on these, but you know, I've recently been seeing incomplete ones sell easily for $50-70. The only thing that hurts yours is that it's the later version that's in a bit less demand, but being complete is a huge plus. You should be able to get over $75.00 for him no problem, even around $100 is possible on the right day.

I wish we still did. It was always cool going to weird little stores like that 'cos you never knew what you'd find. (I was SOOOO excited to find a Dyna-Robo kit.)

Cool, I wish I had a store like that around me when I was a kid.

BTW Don, speaking of Mazinger Z, I'll finally get those discs out to you tomorrow. I had to do some digging to find my copies.

Could be. Could've been a store here in Windsor. We had a few shops that carried toy robots right from Japan.

You're right, that description is definitely Mazinger Z. Mattel didn't release that figure anywhere in the world. But some of the Popy versions did get some distribution in some Asian stores in Chinatowns in larger North American cities (in their original Japanese boxes) so maybe your friend got one at an Asian store in Toronto or something? That's pretty cool, most North American kids didn't get a chance to play with any of the Japanese exclusive Machinders.

Hmmmm.... lokin' back, the one my friend had when we were kids was definitely Mazinger Z. It had the bubble shaped Pilder-thingie instead of the brain jet, and straight horns.

'Course; we lived in Canada so maybe Mattel released 'em here and not in the US?

(all versions have "Great Mazinger/Mazinga" written in Japanese katakana characters on the gold "belt" sticker). Popy's Mazinger Z (a completely different robot) never received a US release by Mattel. Confused yet?
Not yet, I was always into the Go Nagai animation (thanks to several wonderfully made Hong Kong bootleg dvds) I was able to acquire quite a bit of it, so I do know the fun name changes Mattel created
