    Amazing Maxx Fx Website

Got a nice email from Maxx's daddy, toy creator Mel Birnkrant who sent me this link to his Maxx Fx page.

This amazing site gives you all the history on the creation and evolution of Maxx, slideshows, prototypes, a personal account. You'll wish all toy lines would have something similiar:

That was awesome!! Thank you for posting that.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

That was really neat. Wow, that matchbox (video) commercial rap jingle was AWFUL! "Dracula is spectaculah"
Too bad they got sunk by that talking Freddy. I never realized that.
How did they end up being 9 1/2 inch if they are old Mego 8" bodies? That part I don't understand.

I actually had to correct Mel on that point, he washed his hands after a certain time and just assumed the doll was 8". He was told they were going with the "Menudo body' but it seems they used the 10" body molds..

                Cool!!
I wonder if the bodies were the leftover "carcasses" from the aborted Logans Run line?

I honestly think this could still work and be successful today with kids as well as collectors. Especially considering the rebirth of Mego style figures we are currently enjoying. Now would seem like a good time to try it again. Just don't make a Freddy figure to be on the safe side.

Wow, that was a fascinating read. It seems odd that they toned down Drac and Frankie only to make a talking "kiddie" Freddy doll. The guy is rightfully bitter. The line would have gone over well at the time. Esp. when video rental was still pretty new, and horror movies were a staple of older, pre-teen kid viewing.

                            Still have my Freddy.
                            It's a piece of history, I guess.

These things happens a lot, believe me.

Ten years ago, a Belgian "artist" commissioned me to sculpt figurines to complement his new children's books. He just had basic designs, from which I made several sculpts.
A friend of mine and me worked on these for more than 300 hours, in the end delivering fully finished prototype figures in classy display cases.

And that's where it ended. When we saw his finished work, all that went through our heads was: Crap! Utter crap.
A blind guy with Parkinsons and no hands could have drawn better.
He also "drew" other books, but I could point out where he had just lifted the images from photos. "Hey look, it's Sigourney Weaver in Aliens! and there's Columbo!"

The whole thing crashed and burned, and he kept the prototypes, saying that it was my lack of effort that killed it.
Well, I DID work for 300 hours for free.
I later found out that his impressive group of "financial backers" was actually his mother.

So I can feel Mel's pain. The toy industry can suck bigtime....

Guy Bezdechi, if you're reading this: you're a total wanker!
                            .
                            .
                            .
"When things are at their darkest, it's a brave man that can kick back and party."

I was thinking the same thing. I could even see them unchanged from his prototypes and still working/selling.
Maybe we can talk him into a 8" line of these?!!
That updated Creature was cool but I disagreed with his statement that the original Creature wasn't scary. I still find the original Creature kinda creepy/scary.
