In your view what is the most expensive vintage toy line to collect. Megos, GI Joes, BOTW, Captain Action, Star Wars, Hot Wheels, LOTR, SMDM, model Train sets or others? Just curious of people's views on this.

If we are just talking items sold at retail (i.e. no prototypes, promo stuff, retail displays, etc) IMO, Popy Jumbo Machinders (all the Japanese releases). A complete MIB set would probably take years to complete (some would be near impossible) and the total price paid would most likely be six figures easy. -
I know that old train items are expensive. The various MARX playsets are highly valuable due to complenist of the set and if it's still in the box. Original
Captain Action items are also expensive.
Interesting question. I am curious to know the answer. I'd also be interested in knowing where Barbie fits in. I've encountered rabid Barbie collectors when I
worked for TRU. If they went that crazy over new stuff I can only imagine what they act like with vintage Barbie stuff.Comment

Some of the Major Matt Mason stuff can get pricey as well as well as the (same scale) colorforms bendy space aliens. Even loose ones can cost quite a bit: http://cgi.ebay.com/COLORFORMS-OUTER...3286.m20.l1116Last edited by 60'schild; Aug 8, '09, 11:09 PM.Comment

As far as scope it would have to be Star Wars hands down. If take from 1977 to current day the figures/playsets and everything else is mindblowing.
my top 4 would be : SW , GiJoe, Barbie and hot WheelsComment

I would have to say the ideal superqueens. Hard to find complete and when you do they are really up there.Comment

Colorforms.
Good luck getting series 2: only two sets known, apparently.....

I think most of you know where I stand: Fisher Price Little People. The vintage line was made from 1959 to 1990. Nearly every set has variations and there are soooo many parts. Plus there are over 400 different Little People themselves (including variations & whoops). I know that I have spent a few thousand acquiring all those parts and pieces and I still haven't gotten them all.
Other mentions: Megos, Star Wars and Legos.Comment

I collect GI Joe, Captain Action, and I buy my wife vintage Barbie for Christmas and her birthday. I'd say Captain Action is the priciest of the three. I've been pricing out Major Matt Mason and that's an expensive one too.
Both MMM and CA were relatively brief, so collecting the complete line of expensive individual items would be relatively cheaper than collecting the longer runners like Barbie or GI Joe. Nice thing about these two is that they've got sub categories within their line.90, Joe 90.... Great Shakes : Milk Chocolate -- Shaken, not Stirred.Comment
