By no means do I mean any disrespect to He Man collectors but I always looked at these toys as junk. Piles and piles of them at garage sales for a quarter apiece (like ratty-haired naked Barbies). I have almost thrown these away (my kids have some in their toy boxes) several times but the packrat in me just tosses them back in the box.
I'm just surprised they are that valuable.
Hmmm, maybe I'll have to dig through that box when I have my marketplace sale.
Of course with my luck I'll have the least valuable ones out there.

I used to think the same way about He-Man, but I've changed my tune. The two main things I get asked about at toy fairs now are Transformers and He-Man, and go check out the prices MOC He-Man stuff goes for now, it's right up there.

I too think that the highest average price for a vintage toy line would be Jumbo Machinders, 'common' ones MIB are $1K - $2K up to harder stuff, $10K or $20K in some cases.

60's Superhero stuff like the Ideal playsets Brian mentioned or the Super Queens and Captain Action would be up there too.

      Cheers!

A beat up incomplete MOTU figure or Barbie is junk just like another toy would be in that condition.

Other than that, beauty is in the eye of the beholder or toy collector.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Yep, that's what I'm saying. And there are around 45 figures in the set, so if you were to try to put together the complete line...do the math, it's scary. If the cheapest ones are around $1000.00 MIB, you know you are in trouble. And at the other end of the scale, you'd probably have a near impossible time of finding some of the villains, and a couple of them aren't even known to exist MIB.

Carded WGSH should get a nod as well. Even without variations, the difficulty and prices for either a set of 1st issue or 2nd issue characters is daunting.

A set of 2nd issue carded figures, just one of each character, sold for $100,000 within the past 2 years. The buyer was a friend of the seller. He was very lucky, finding the toughest characters would have been impossible without his friend's help.

Thinking older toy lines, I used to collect vintage Disneyana memorabilia. Some of those toys are outrageous...the 1930 Tipp & Co. wind-up tin Mickey and Minnie motorcycle sold last year for $57,500.

There are many 1930's Mickey/Disney items that are in the tens of thousands and several hundred items that are in the thousands.

Definitely Godaiken's! I remember these things were retailing for $50-$80 in Canada (in the few stores I saw them in) back when they were new. I was lucky enough to buy a few on a visit to Asia as a kid for a little less. Can't imagine trying to complete a set these days.
My store in the MEGO MALL!

Colorform Aliens is a very expensive line to collect. MIP prices are crazy. I would like to collect them but they are expensive.
