what's next Chutes and Ladders? Who wants to see a movie based on a board game.....candyland? Monopoly? you have got to be kidding me. At least with Clue there is a story to the game, but these others? I agree, Hollywood has no originality left.Comment

....uh....
This is a joke, right? RIGHT?!?!?! I mean, this was a Robot Chicken skit! Chutes and Ladders, the buddy cop film. The gritty action drama Hungry, Hungry Hippos....
Joke...? Please say yes....
>Hasbro's Brian Goldner and Bennett Schneir will also produce.
Ever see "Cecil B. Demented?" The scene where they attack the dinner party....
>Universal and Hasbro formed their partnership in early 2008 and unveiled plans to produce at least four movies based on popular Hasbro brands.
So.... they're doing FOUR big budget epic films about board games?!?!? Er....
>Monopoly, with Ridley Scott set to produce and direct and Pamela Pettler writing the screenplay;
Remember when Ridley Scott had cred? What happened? Although a Bladerunner-esque Monopoly is intriguing....
>Candyland, with Kevin Lima to direct based on a script from Etan Cohen; Clue, with Gore Verbinski to produce and direct; Ouija, with Michael Bay to produce; and Battleship, with Peter Berg to direct from a screenplay by Jon and Erich Hoeber.
Shouldn't Michael Bay be doing Battleship? You can only make a Ouila board explode once.
So.... it looks like they took out the dartboard of big names and combined them with the hatful of held properties. Now, I'd never say that somethig should just NEVER be used as source material: any story has the potential to work.... but my problem with something like this is that a boardgame is about as far removed from amovie as you can get. No story, no characters, and the drama is based on participancey not observation. So making one as a movie requires one of two things:
-a unique take on things that ports the game to the screen, keeping the basic ideas
OR
-the name slapped on a plot with vaguely similar themes.
Since there's so much money and name power involved, guess which one is more likely. 'Course it's also likely they'll stock each with hatever seems popular at the time; so rather than "Monopoly" being a remake of "Wall Street" it'll feature our team of kung-fu tweens fighting against an evil corp exec with a monacle.
With that being said; it is POSSIBLE to pull out a good movie from this sort of thing. I just think the odds are against it. (Especially once they start cramming big names into the cast.) I'll at least wait until I see an ad or two to make any real judgements. But I'm still kinda scared. And dismayed; since the quest for brand recognition almost ensures that I"m gonna see the same ideas over and over and over.
Unless of course this is all a joke....

They arent jokes, Ridley Scott is directing a Monopoly movie too.
I read an article somewhere on line a year a two ago about how big of
influence toy companies have over movies now. it included some interviews with frustrated game programmers talking about toy companies and hollywood being clueless about what should be in the game. Some people from EA said they were forced to have a driving level in the 2005 Batman Begins game, even tho they had no intention of doing one.
They are getting out of hand, and its only going to get worse.
The funniest instance of Corporations buying ads in movies to me was Demolition man and the Taco Bell bs.
Really what could they make a Stretch movie about?

Mr Potatohead is a popular supporting character voiced by Don Rickles in the Pixar Toy Story movies, and given Disney's love of milking things, this isn't beyond the realm of possibility! It might make a good short given how entertaining Mr and Mrs Potatohead are in the Toy Story movies.Comment

How can they possibly top this as the all time best Ouiji Board movie?
YouTube - Witchboard (trailer)
Not only did it star TAWNY KITAEN, but it spawned like elevenhundred sequels.
Remember the original Clue movie with all the multiple endings? Depending which theatre you saw it in at the multiplex, you got a different murderer.

Great Cast. I certainly enjoyed it as a young kid, but I'm sure it doesn't hold up at all now.
Other Board Game movies... Jumanji and Zathura, although admittedly they were fictional games inside of the children's books to begin with.Comment

>They arent jokes,
NNNNNNNOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
>Ridley Scott is directing a Monopoly movie too.
So.... who's gonna play the thimble?
>They are getting out of hand, and its only going to get worse.
Y'know.... if people stopped seeing them, they'd stop making them....
>what could they make a Stretch movie about?
He'll be a goofy, over the top superhero. Think Plastic Man with a different name. Unless they go all "Dark Knight;" in which case he's a bitter, twisted soul leading his war on crime, and the criminals that made him the freak he is.
I should be quiet now. Someone will hear.
