    Stretch Armstrong: The Movie

I got this release emailed to me several times today:

Universal and Hasbro announced that Stretch Armstrong, the first feature
film to be released under their six-year deal, will open on April 15,
2011, and that Imagine Entertainment's Brian Grazer is teaming with
Hasbro to produce the movie. Hasbro's Brian Goldner and Bennett Schneir
will also produce. Earlier this year Steve Oedekerk (Bruce Almighty,
Evan Almighty) was tapped to write the screenplay for the movie
adaptation of Stretch Armstrong. Universal and Hasbro formed their
partnership in early 2008 and unveiled plans to produce at least four
movies based on popular Hasbro brands. Currently in development are
Monopoly, with Ridley Scott set to produce and direct and Pamela Pettler
writing the screenplay; Candyland, with Kevin Lima to direct based on a
    script from Etan Cohen; Clue, with Gore Verbinski to produce and direct;
Ouija, with Michael Bay to produce; and Battleship, with Peter Berg to
direct from a screenplay by Jon and Erich Hoeber.

If they keep Stretch Monster on model, I'm in.

I'm kind of surprised Hasbro still owns Stretch Armstrong. I know they bought Kenner years ago, but didn't Cap Toys release the 90s version of Stretch? Did they license the name from Hasbro?

Hasbro bought Cap in the mid nineties as well.

Oedekerk was the fellow who did all the thumb movies. (Thumb Wars, Frankenthumb, Thumbtanic) He has a delightfully twisty sense of humor. Good news for a flick about a stretchy superhero filled with syrup.

I hope they have a stretch monster as well and have a nice marketing ploy set up. I miss my stretch. He went the way of a plastic surgery disaster way back when. It would be fun to see a revival of this line.

So did Stretch ever have any kind of a back story that would pertain to a movie? Hey, maybe he could face off that summer against Pulsar the Motion Picture.

when i first saw this thread i thought it was a joke. i mean a tranformers , gi joe , stretch armstrong movie i think toys should be based on movies not the other way around.
needless to say i'm going to pass on this movie and wait till "dragonriders of the styx" comes out on dvd.

Actually, of all those listed, Stretch sounds like the best idea for a film...although I'm NOT looking forward to the scene where they fill him up with corn syrup!!!

Clue has potential, but it has to deal with the bad aftertaste of the last Clue movie.

Let me guess? Starring Will Ferrell?

Can Weebles: The Motion Picture be far behind?
starring Louie Anderson & Kirstie Alley

Hollywood has gone to hell in a hand basket.
There is no originality left, if the remakes and reboots don't kill them, this stuff will.
Oh wait a minute.. people will still pay $$$ to see this crap and make more crap like this.
