Girl's Toy Day!

Seeing as it's my darlin' daughter's birthday today and her long (and much missed) afternoon naps are what inspired me to create this blog three years and five days ago (which I probably should have mentioned) I thought I'd dedicate the day to her favorite subject, dolls!



In this case Barbie's with two classic commercials from our DVD, first is the Barbie Townhouse.







Most Mego collectors I know would liken this to the Wayne Foundation playset but did you also know it was released for Big Jim in Europe? It was a killer spy headquarters that makes you wish you born in Italy, You can see it here.



The second commercial is for the Fashion Face, which is one of those disembodied heads you put makeup on, they creep me out and my daughter wants one, in fact, she wants this one. Something tells me I won't find this at Toys R Us.
Now, if you'll excuse me I have go buy some toys...

Every time I show my wife the Wayne Manor Playset in the galleries, she tells me about this toy. It's kind of neat. If she still had this, I'd convert it to a Mego playset. That Big Jim Spy HQ is awesome.

Speaking for the girls on this board, Brian, I thank you. I wanted one of these SO bad when I was a kid, but Mom refused b/c it's so large and would take up to much room. I had to settle for making a homemade version from stackable plant tables and odds and ends. I do like that Big Jim Spy HQ. But of course it's not the first time Mattel shared playsets for BJ and Barbie (Sports camper and Country Camper). I wish I had space for this now.

My sister had the Barbie Townhouse. I always thought it was neat and until recently thought the Wayne Foundation (which I never had nor have ever seen in person) was the same toy with different colored parts & background.
GI Joe used to visit Barbie quite often back then but that damn Barbie only had a twin size bed!

I've wanted to buy that house for my 5 year old several times, but the Chief Minister for War won't have any of it. "Ludicrously big" was one of her reasons I seem to recall. "That's exactly where its awesomeness lies!" says I! No chance.

I never had any of the real Barbie houses. Mine was a four-sided cardboard thing that was open at one end. You stood it up, hoped the open corner would stay put, and put your furniture inside.
That Barbie head is on my list of worst toys in the world. And there's been a new one for every generation, each getting progressively creepier than the one before.
