    Vintage stuff question.

A woman who lives next to me died a few weeks back, Didnt know her that well but still was kinda sad thing to happen.
Now saturday morning I was in my yard and I saw an elderly couple carrying boxs out of the house and putting them on curb. I got to talking to them and they said if Id help them I could have anything I wanted out of the house. I go okay thinking maybe Ill score a cool new couch or something. Boy was I wrong.
This woman was a pack rack, this house was filled top to bottom with stuff. And not trashed either. I got cameras from the 1950s still in mint packages.
Probaly the best thing tho was over a thousand playboys from the 50s and 60s, most of them still in the mailers never opened. I was asking the couple "You sure you dont want this stuff?" and they go No No you are more than welcome to it.
There are some very old toys, nothing that would excite us too much tho.
I did find a sparkling mint , looks like store shelf new, set of 4 cans of play doh with a price of 1.89 marked on it. ANybody know if thats worth anything? Iver neve seen a Play Doh collector. So if anywone knows of one let me know or point me in the right direction.
We also got an antique violin and case. looks to be from the 40s/50s.
Got a ton of old Tv Guides as well, all of them look as tho they were never opened.
Just alot of really weird stuff , but stranger still is all the stuff doesnt seem to go past 1991...........
Also found a box full of old military badges and patches...............
Im going to go thru more of it today, Ill let you guys know what else I find.

Ill look thru them and I will let you know.
Alot of this stuff is going on Ebay, so Ill keep everyone updated.
It will be thru my girlfreind Karens ebay account, I believe her Id is Poovi2 , she has great ratings.
I think some of the playboys will be up wensday, I think thos are going to be the gold mine. I know there are TV guide nuts out there too.
Im going thru the rest tonight, there is a TON of stuff in this house.
The couple are also going to write up a document stating they gave me permsision to have this stuff as well.

The Playboy's are a bigtime score.
Don't sell them to the first person you talk to.
        Ask around.

If the Violin seems kind of small, it's probably a student violin ...
Check the inside for stamps or a tag.
If it say's Stradivarius, don't get all excited.
Many violins were stamped Stradivarius -- because they claim it SOUNDS like one.

Heh Type1Kirk, My girlfriend did that !!!!
Strangley there is no manufacture name on it, so its probaly a cheapie.
And 100% agree with you on the Playboys. I am not real sure how I am going to do those right now. I cant decide if it would be a lot sell or list them individual......... There are some Playboy binders too, a few of them have whole years worth of Playboys in them.
This one here was a new on me too but we also found a large amount of cancelled credit cards and Ive now discoverd that people collect those.
We also found a box full of clothes from the gap in the 80s, still perfectly store folded and priced.
I talked to the man this morning and said you know I have to be honest some of this is worth alot of money and I dont feel right taking it. He goes, look it was my wifes sister, they never got along. We dont have the place to keep this stuff and it was going in the trash but if it does something nice for you we will be happy knowing that.

Just off the top of my head, the Playboys SHOULD go for a couple of thousand dollars -- that's if you have the very early issues.

Yeah, you should do very well on 1950's and 60's Playboys. And if they are mint in their original unopened mailers, even better! Don't open them, I doubt that hardly any of the early issues exist in that condition, that will be a huge selling point. And the cool thing about Playboys that old is that you don't have to sell them back in the "mature audience" section of ebay, but you can sell them in the regular "Magazines" section and get much more traffic. I'd sell them individually, considering the condition and vintage, you'll get much more money. Great find!

If you find any Graflex Camera Flash Tubes you might need to build a lightsaber

Of course if you find any GAF or Sawyers View-Master I'd be checking that out too. (My sister and I are stereo-optic collectors)

If i found viewmasters Id probaly keep those !!
But I will let you guys know what I come up with.
I think this lady kept everything she ever owned.
Any one know anything about Vintage Credit cards, there is very little info on the web but I know people buy them. I have about 15-20 from the 60s 70s that appear to have never been used and they are in excellent shape.
Sadly tho there doesnt seem to be many toys at all other than the ones we have gotten so far, and they seem like maybe ungiven gifts I guess.
Its a calvacade of vintage magazines tho, We could open a Vintage Magazine shop probaly !!!!!!!

Any other vintage men's magazines besides Playboys? There is definitely a market for them. Don't know much about credit cards, but I do know there are people who collect them. I'd imagine that ones from now defunct companies and stores would be the most in demand.

Nah no other vintage mens magazines. Its mostly Playboys and TV guides. Some magazines from the 50s and 60s, Dog world a few lifes stuff like that.
I have found the Credit Card Collectors society website and they have a forum but you have to pay to read it !!!
I have found that 2 of the cards I have sold on ebay for 54 bucks a peice so I guess Ill throw them on there.
I am fairly certain all the stuff of value has been found. The rest of it is pretty much junk, old bills several thousand old news papers ( and I literally mean several thousand) that are rotting to bad to bother with.
My girlfreind just came back from next door with several boxes of stuff so Im going to run and go thru those !!!!!!!!!

If you come across the Superman or Batman TV guides they can bring a decent amount of $$.

Strad on a violin merely means that it is made the way a Stradivarius was. A copy. There are other major body type copies as well, but the Strad is by far the most common.
Measure the body of the violin and that will get you in the ballpark for what scale it is. i.e. 4/4 , 3/4 , 1/2, etc and etc down until you just can't believe anyone's fingers could be that small. 14" is generally regarded as 4/4 or full scale.

My daughter has a 1/10. It is very cute but pretty tough to squeeze big papa hands on sometimes.

Perhaps you could offer to make a donation to the family's favorite charity in the name of their relative with any proceeds you get. That would probably make them feel good and would give a little karmic boost to your sales.

                              have a good time.
