I listed a ton of old Playboys on eBay a few years back and eBay pulled my listings. I did not post any photos of porongraphic nature nor did I discribe them in any "adult" way. I was not given a reason by ebay. They refunded my listing fees but I was out the time it took to list 50 to 60 Playboys. Eventually after annoying my girlfriend by keeping them around the house for a few years, I put the entire box in a bonfire in the backyard.
BIG MISTAKE!! not because of the value, but because if you've ever tried to burn a huge stack of magazines you know that they start to "float" around in the air. I'm talking HUNDREDS of half burned pages with naked ladies on them floating all around the neighbourhood.

What years were they from? Ebay allows pre-1980 Playboys to be listed in the regular "General audience" section, but any issues that are 1980 or newer have to be listed in the "mature audience" section. It doesn't matter how tame your photos or descriptions are, the rules just go by the publication date. Probably some competing seller who sells Playboys reported you.

The boys in your neighbourhood must have had a blast looking for pictures after your bonfire.

Can you pay by credit card? Ok, stupid joke.

Seriously, it sounds like a treasure trove. I take it the living relatives just don't want to deal with it for a variety of reasons and maybe some of the reasons stem back to some unresolved feelings.

I would just consider it your lucky day and as long as they are ok with it; take what you want.

I had an uncle who died years ago. My cousin really wasn't interested in a lot of the stuff he had for a variety of reasons and told my mom I was welcome to take what I wanted from the house that she hadn't already picked through.

I found a couple of interesting items like an antique sewing machine and some old tools but the best find by far was a family portrait of my grandfather's family taken when he was about 14 or 15 so it included my great grandfather and great grandmother along with him and siblings. I couldn't believe she was prepared to throw it in the trash but she probably had no idea who it even was nor did she care.

My mom helped her get the house cleaned out so she could put it on the market and sell it. In return, she gave my mom my uncle's Cadillac which had about 12k miles on it. My mom's car was starting to get old so it was a nice surprise.

Consider it a gift or blessing. Honestly, it sounds like the survivors are just happy to have you take what they consider trash off their hands so they can probably get the property cleaned to sell. In the meantime, it looks like you have found a nice treasure trove of goodies that you can sell on Ebay in return for helping them removing the "junk".

Well Basically I think the people didnt want to deal with it because it was such a mess. So we cleared some stuff out for them, they payed us by carting some of it off.
Ill go thru the tv guides tonight and If i see any that I think anyone here may have interest in Ill post a list here and let you guys have first crack at them.
Wasnt there a TV guide with Kiss on it ?

Great story enjoy the ride! You never know what you may find. :-)

The Mile High comic find is my favourite "one man's junk" story, if you've never read it I highly recommend it, although I warn you it will haunt your dreams for a long time

Ive heard of that before, the Edgar Church collection. never read it staright from the horses mouth tho. Pretty good read.
Boy I wish these people had been comic nuts.
Anyway I have found why most of the mid to late 60s playboys were all in the mailer, the husband of the woman who lived there was in Vietnam and she kept his subscription and issues for him while away. So that actually makes alot of sense.
And for the bad news, almost all of the TV guides save the ones from the late 80s are in real bad shape. Dry rotted , water damage crap like that.
I havent seen of interest to those I promised on here yet but I will let you know when I do.
Say, anyone know of a magazine collectors site? I havent been able to find one, not playboy either, just general 50s/60s magazines.

Nothing on as big of a scale but I have a friend who collects coins. I also collect coins but generally don't have the time or patience he does for finding the diamond in the rough.

There is a local coin shop in town and it isn't unusual for people to bring in rolls of Buffalo Nickels, Mercury Dimes, etc. and not wanting to take the time to look through them to see if there are any scarce coins in the rolls. The dealer will usually give them a fair premium for the coins knowing that they can at least sell the coins as space fillers for $1 a piece for example and maybe find a desirable coin in the mix.

Someone apparently brought in rolls of wheat pennies that the dealer paid about $2 for each $.50 roll and proceeded to go through them hoping to find some of the rarer pennies.

My friend walks in one day and sees that they have rolls of wheat pennies and that the employees have been exhaustingly going through the rolls and not uncovering much. My friend asks if they would be willing to sell some of the rolls that haven't been inspected and they offer to sell him whatever he wants for $3 a roll. He said he spent $75 on 25 rolls that weren't open. He starts going through them and sure enough starts finding pennies worth $5 and $10 a piece so his patience is starting to pay off.

He then hits the mother load. He finds a 1955 double dye (which is basically a very collectible penny that has been double struck by mistake) and worth $1,200 even in circulated fine condition. He decides to have the coin graded and it comes back in Extra Fine condition and has been offered quite a bit of money for it. He showed it to me and was so proud of his find, told me he would never sell it...he has been hooked ever since.

I like to dabble in old 'paper' now and then. I have some old Sci-Fi mags, etc.
I've tracked down the occasional old Playboy if they had one of my nerdy celebrity crushes, i.e. Carol Lynley, Sherry Jackson (Andrea on Star Trek)
So much depends on condition, condition, condition. And with Playboys, the earlier the better.
I usually re-sell after I've had something for a spell, and I don't get much.
Actually, let me know if you've got November '73.
It's got Jennifer Salt from Gargoyles!
