Chris Curley sent in these great shots of then 57 year old Adam West still looking pretty darn good in his Batman gear. This is from a car show in Chicago, West must have been on a tour that year. Batman was being heavily syndicated and I remember him popping up in my own city around the same time.
The awesome TV Batmobile.
In about 3 years, West would no longer be allowed to wear the costume in public appearances.
awesome,he looked great. Why would'nt he be allowed to wear the costume anymore?
Warner thought it a threat to the new movie, they wanted the public to accept Michael Keaton as Batman.
The same thing happened to Clayton Moore when the new Lone Ranger movie came out, they took away his mask. Clinton Splisbury's movie was quickly forgotten (as was Clinton) and Moore was given his mask back I believe.
For a long while though, Moore would show up to appearances in a HUGE pair of sunglasses.

I've seen video footage of him dressed as Batman from that time. Got to give it to him other actors wouldn't do that but Adam is a ham at heart. I would have loved to have seen him dressed as Bats but I still got a kick meeting and talking to him years later.

oh ok,kind of makes sense.thanx for the info I wonder how much longer he would've been dressing up for
It always breaks my heart to hear these stories of some of our favorite TV personalities being slapped with a cease and desist from the studio preventing them from doing anymore costumed live appearances.
It doubly breaks my heart to see photos of some of these "Batmobile appearances" where the car used is nothing more than a sad, sorry, lame reproduction that features overly garish details which were NEVER included on the real car (those horrible red side view mirrors!! White lettering on the tires!! That honkingly large flasher beacon on the top Ugh!!!).
To make matters worse, these stinky repro cars will add these un necessary details, only to LEAVE OFF key details that should be on the car (rear bubble canopy, bats on the doors, correct wheel rims...)
West's suit above is mostly definitely a repro of the suit used in the series ... but it does leave me with a question .....
His suit above is clearly lighter then the slightly darker gray suit used in the series ...
The only thing, the Batman TV movie a few years ago (the story of the series) had a suit similiar to the one above ... meaning it was lighter then the series original.
I wish I could've seen Adam West when he could still wear the Bat suit. That would have been a blast!

'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic

Cool pics. I got the impression Adam got the cease and desist, but never any confirmation before. I remember seeing Clayton on TV with those huge Blu-blockers!
Just imagine if just a year later, Warners greenlit a Dark Knight Returns movie with Adam as Batman. It would have worked I tell ya!!!
