I caught myself checking out the stores and buildings as he would walk down the street. Loved the whole set up from the old cars to the decor of his apartment with the lava lamp and love beads hanging in the doorway. Enjoyed the show and the storyline very much.

I am a HUGE fan of the UK version and am very apprehensive about how this will translate.
Not to give away too much, but can they possibly go more than a season or 2?

Hey, I thought it was prety good! I really enjoyed the BBC series and wasn't sure how this would work in America, but it was good. Same as the BBC 1st episode, almost exactly. Not sure yet about Harvey Keitel in the Gene Hunt role, but Gretchen Moll was great as Annie (loved her as the Notorious Bettie Page, too)!
Loved the WTC shots...I understand that originally the series was to be set in 70S Los Angeles but they changed it to New York. Seems to be a good idea, not only for symbolism of things like the Twin Towers, but also for the more streetwise atmosphere.
Although if they had set it in LA, I can't help thinking how great it would be to hear "One-ADAM-12, see the man" come over the car radio. Or have a guest-shot by Johnny Gage or Roy Desoto during a big "Emergency!"
Maybe they can slip some unheralded 70s show cameos into the background of some episodes. Wouldn't it be neat to see Starsky & Hutch dragging in Huggy Bear in the background of a shot when Sam is leaving the precinct building? Or get a memo from Captain Barney Miller- or better yet, a scene with Abe Vigoda wandering down the corridor.Comment

Yeah, it did, didn't it. Duh on me- I knew that too! Maybe they should have left LOM in Los Angeles....
Actually, now that I really think about it, most cop shows from the 70s were in LA or California. Kojak was in New York...and I think so was Baretta (or was that in NJ). Any others?Comment

I was looking up a couple shows to verify my (obviously) faulty memory, and I found these on Wikipedia:
TV SHOWS SET IN LOS ANGELES:

*and*
TV SHOWS SET IN NEW YORK:

I'm actually a bit amazed that someone took the time to do this. There's also lists for Washington DC, Chicago, San Francisco, Hawaii, & Miami.Comment

But this show isn't about cop shows from the 70's. So they wouldn't appear in a scene with him. They would appear on the TV he was watching. Just like they showed a clip from Cannon and Kojak on the the TV he was watching. Cannon and Kojak didn't stroll in the police station he works in. That would be a different show and it would be good too.
