My sister had this home-made giant Raggedy Ann doll. this thing must've been at least 3 feet tall. She swears that it moved from a chair in her room during the night more than once. It was a creepy scary doll. I think it ended up in the closet.
Also when I was a kid, my friends and I were terrified of the Ouija board. We thought it was evil spirits coming to get us so we threw it in a pond.
I still don't like that game. Creeps me out.

My mom told me a story about when she was little, one of her 3 sisters spray painted a dolls head silver. She also blacked out the eyes with paint.they would hide under each others bed at night and slowly this creepy doll would come lurking from down below. Her dad got sick of all the foolishness of his daughters scaring each other and took the doll and through it out, but apparently one of the sisters was able to retrieve it and hid it for months until one night she hid under my mom's bed again and scared the crap outta her.

Old china dolls still kind of wig me out. Esp. if they have cracks and are missing one eye...brrr!!!

Hugo frightened me from the Sears catalog. Very disturbing.

I remember Boglins. Those things were freaky.

I imagine if I'd actually seen the 18" Kenner Alien back in the day it would have frightened me. I was a wiener.

I used to have a battery operated coin bank.

It was in the shape of a coffin (about 8 inches long) ... and when you put a coin on the top, a skeleton hand would come out and pull the coin in.

Today, i'd say that was cool --- but at the time, it was pretty creepy.

But mine winds up and is more of a square cardboard box.

                clowns
I was always a little leary of clowns and usually made sure I knew where any might be if I was playing at a new buddies place.

In 1980 I saw a boot copy of Alien at a friends birthday party and was enamored with the Kenner big guy who must have been at the clearance stage by then. I recall a big pile of them at my local toy haunt in our mall. After I had pointed out the cool glow in the dark skull and shiny pointy teeth, my sister declared I would sneak into her room at night and terrorize her with it and so I was not allowed to bring him home. I've never forgiven her for that.

Those really realistic-looking rubber newborn baby dolls - especially when they're face-down in the corner of the room in a pile with a bunch of other stuff...

Those didn't scare me until I was in university and read "The Demonologist."

True story: My friend Greg was over at our house a few years back. He went to the bathroom, and when he came out, he looked across the hall into our son, Andrew's room. He saw a young boy's body face down on the hardwood floor. Now Greg is usually an unflappable guy. He never gets excited about anything. But he blurted out "ANDREW!" and ran into his room...only to find out it was Cindy's old "My Buddy" doll she gave to Andrew. Andrew was safe and sound in the living room.

And since My Buddy was the inspiration for Chucky, it makes it even more twisted.
