Dynamite Scholastic Magazines

Anyone else loves these? I only have a few but they bring back some great memories. They were ordered from Scholastic Book Services through your school starting back in the 70's. In the early ones they would feature the origin of a superhero in the section Super-Heroes Confidential. Other features were games, trivia and teen type interviews among other things. They always had a cool fold out poster inside. Sometimes it would be comic related They were followed by other mags such as Pizzazz and Bananas.

I think I remember them. They started out serious then turned to a comedy format along the lines of Mad and Cracked,didn't they?

I remember having Dynamite's with articles on Christopher Reeve, and one with Spidey on the cover in that classic "running with one hand down" pose. Or was that "Hot Dog!" magazine?

Now we're talking! I LOVE these! In my school, you just weren't cool if you didn't have one of these in your book order! My 4th grade teacher Mrs. Weissman, used to order 4 extra every month, and draw names to see who'd get them. (I won twice!) A few years ago, I went to the Laney College flea market and saw like 30 of these in the last aisle, and had no money left. Since I was there every week, the person said I could have them and give her $5 next week. I came back every week for a month, and she wasn't there. So they were FREE! I just picked up 3 more at the toy show Saturday. I love the features. Bummers, Count Morbida, And Now A Word From Our Sponsor. I use these today. I make copies of some items for my bulletin board in my class. I also have a lot of the Dynamite books that you could order from the mag, and I even have a Dynamite backpack.

I rememger getting the scholastic order form and looking for the Dynamite magazine. I have a few, including the one with Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno on the cover. Didn't they start their own superhero strip with two teens, a male and a female?

OMG! I loved Dynamite magazine. I think I had the Sweat Hogs issue in your pic Tim and I KNOW I had that FF poster. I also recall an issue that had the Bay City Rollers on the cover : )

These were HOT back in '74-'75. I remember the FF poster.. JUST pulled it out the other day to frame and found it to have some water damage from an accidental flooding in the basement. Great covers ~ Framing some of them (like the sweathogs..) will surely make it a hit at get-togethers.

What's NOT to love...?

Wow, I loved collecting Dynamite magazines as a kid. I think I had most of the earlier ones. I'll have to try and find them the next time I visit my family. I remember one cover with Hawkeye (M*A*S*H) saying to Radar "sorry, I can't hear you, I have a banana in my ear". Well...it's possible that I didn't remember that exactly.

Haven't seen or though about them in years, I rember ordering them and collecting them back around 75, The only one i rember had Lindsay Wanger on the cover, I get the feeling that finding mint copies will be next to impossiable for as i rember they got passed around the class room a lot

Mint? Just finding complete copies with the posters and other attachments still inside is hard enough.

Like i said i rember them going around the classroom many times and the posters were always pulled out as were the TOPPS baseball cards insert but i don't think these magazines surrived long after they were out grown
