What about Honeycombs? I'm not talking about that garbage they air nowadays. I'm talking about the ones they use to have with those kids in the clubhouse. Heck, they even got Andre the Giant in on the act once.

            No love for The Freakies?

The cereal was so-so, but I loved the little plastic monsters that came in the box. I gotta get me a set of them. While I'm at it, I'll add another vote for Quisp.

That was hilarious, but I was surprised at the absence of Dig-Em, the Sugar Smacks Frog (or Smacks, as it is now called). After all, Mayor Adam West had a statue erected to him in a Family Guy episode. As much as I love early Ren and Stimpy, that trumps Powdered Toast Man all to heck.

Well, I seem to remember Sugar Smacks and Sugar Crisp being essentially the same cereal made by two different companies, so you covered you bases very well.

Dig-Em never seemed to have much personality anyway.

I never noticed Sugar Bear talked like Dean Martin.

Weird that went right by me for 40 years

Great article, but I have to agree that Dig Em is a glaring omission. Although I was never a big fan of their cereals, I was always a fan of the General Mills Monsters. And years later, I remember arguing with co-workers and friends about the existence of Fruit Brute, no one else remembered him. Thank god that Quentin Tarantino memorialized the Fruit Brute cereal box in one scene in PULP FICTION. I remember nudging my friend in the theatre, loudly whispering "Fruit Brute! Fruit Brute! Right there! See the box?!"

Yeah, I think Quisp and Dig'Em should be on that list too. But remember when these cereals had prizes based on their own mascots and not some movie? Them were the days.

I can see why Quisp isn't on there.

They've been gone for soooo long now, not many younger readers even know what Quisp was.

Most of their picks are cereals that are still around today.

I'm 37 and was raised on Buffalo TV, I never saw one Quisp commercial in my life.
