    Mego Mystery Man Mailer Box!!!

My good friend Luis Felipe emailed these wonderful pics to ask if I'd ever seen a Mego Mystery Man with a belt. I flipped out when I saw the mailer box next to him. Pretty much, "Who cares about the belt...What's Up with that BOX?!?!"

He says he purchased it on ebay several years ago. The Mego Mystery Man did come in that box. The large plastic is for the figure and the small plastic is for the helmet. How 'bout that?? I don't believe any information has surfaced about his origins or packaging.

Can anyone decifer the code on the box?

And for his sake, has anyone ever seen one with a belt?

Reading Ben's blog and book for clues:

pages 52 & 145, mention of "1325" in association with the Batmobile "51325"....
but then page 218, mailer box Batmobile is "923-0749"

and one catalog that has the "923" prefix is the 1975 JC Penney catalog....dunno if it was used in other catalogs and years

        According to this old thread:

mailer box 923-1630 - Mego Talk

923-1325 is the code for Wyatt Earp. I would imagine its highly possible the year of production may mean something though, and JC Penney may have reused the same numbers year after year, assigning new items to them. Imp would probably know for sure though.

I guess my first question is, was this box sealed when this guy purchased this MM?

Most I've seen come without the belt, but I've seen it added often and just assumed that was something added by the collector because they thought it missing.

Guess we need more of a story about how this ended up in this guys hands and in what condition he got it.

The large plastic almost looks too short to contain the figure.

So if the guy didn't open this box himself, this doesn't mean alot, but if he did, it's a big piece to the MM puzzle.

It's possible that the box is INDEED a Wyatt Earp box and the smaller plastic contained his hat or gun belt as opposed to the Astronaut's helmet....

I think the plastic is actually folded over for the pics. This is an ebay purchase from 2001, so I'd greatly imagine he wasn't the first to open it. He says the figure was sealed in those bags, but I've yet to hear the rest from him. It could indeed be put together by the seller, and hence mean nothing.

When I hear more, I'll give an update. He says he actually kept a paper copy of the auction. Even if it wasn't directly ordered from the catalog by Luis, I'm hoping the auction may give more clues to its origins.

Captain is right. It's Wyatt Earp, from the 1974 JC Penney catalog. Not special, I'm afraid.

Charlie B. now owns this, but I bought this it from Mark Huckabone several years ago.

I agree with Dave the bag is too small, and I don't recall any other examples of Mego

I seem to recall one other "packaged" version, but can't find the other pic.

Ha!! That tag says City Dump.

Thanks for the clarification guys. Thought Luis might have had something.

                          Oh well, the mystery continues.
