Ebay is still the king, more shoppers. I don't like what they are doing, but when you hold the keys to a monopoly, you can almost do as you please.
Yahoo had a great auction site a few years ago, it was free and had alot of people using it. They decided to start charging, the site went to crap, now no one hardly uses it.sigpicComment

I stopped using ebay when the last load of changes came in...it's just not worth it."I've just bought a house. It's got a Buck Rogers Toilet. One yank, all gone!"Comment

I sell on eBay a TON. Probably 1000 auctions a year. Of those 1000, I'd say less than 3 percent actually mail payment. It's probably less than 2 percent. The vast vast majority use Paypal anyway. This announcement is not going to change much at all....Comment

I'm only up to about 850 auctions in my feedback column, and I'll continue to use eBay. I only use PayPal anyways, have for over a decade with zero problems.. As some of the forum folks here know, I usually put in a few extra bucks if I'm using PP just to cover the charges.
It's also MUCH less headaches with the Mrs if she's not aware of my accumulated PP holdings for buying/selling..Peace.. Through Superior Firepower.

Basically they've calculated the losses and said it's acceptable. Truthfully it should make things safer, though it is pretty much a monopoly by ebay. They give you some options other than Paypal, but it's pretty much like saying you have to take a car to work, or you can take a burro, you're gonna choose the easiest, and most common, one which in this case is Paypal. They're gonna lose some people but most will adapt and are gonna make more revenue for them through Paypal fees, so they will probably break out even and then push for growth from that point on. I'm really surprised they haven't tried to tie in with a shipping company to develop some system that is financially advantageous. They could probably acquire DHL in a flash though they are the least reliable of the majors, if they even can be considered a major at this point. An alliance with UPS would be a dream as they are simply the best and most organized shipping option available IMO. They would also be the most qualified to develop a system if they saw a chance to gain enough revenue to make it worthwhile. The USPS would be the most logical. They would love to keep UPS from gaining anymore ground and it would be a source of income that is not being destroyed by the internet, when was the last time you mailed a letter or even mailed in a bill? I think I send 3 a month and that's down to 2 with the completion of my car payments this month. The problem I see is the USPS would basically need to develop an inexpensive plan to track and charge for shipping items. A system UPS has basically already perfected. If they could do this they would be a completely self supportive company and make a profit at every level of the selling transaction. BTW it really won't affect me at all. The times I've had issues with Paypal have been as a seller and not a buyer. I haven't given up ebay but definately don't sell as often as I used to. When the IRS figures out how to track and tax sellers, it will be the next big issue where ebay will suffer. Until then I don't think this will affect them anywhere but in the short term. They may lose a few disgruntled buyers and sellers still living in the 60's watching B&W tv's and listening to their AM radio stations, but most will not be affected by anything more than their unwillingness to want to help a monopoly develop. They'll do it, they just will feel bad about it as their Paypal accounts grow. It's not a doll it's an action figure.Comment

And that's basically what it comes down to- as long as ebay still offers the most Megos to buy and the biggest market to sell to, they will rule. I'm sure they lose some sellers with every rule change, but they still get the most people.WANTED - Solid-Boxed WGSH's, C.8 or better.Comment

I have about 20 or less auctions a year that I sell in so it's not much of a difference to me and I prefer to pay via PP. Still doesn't mean i like having the choices taken away from me.Comment
