My favourite aspect of the type one is the paint job, like somebody mentioned earlier, the type twos all look like they hit the tanning machine.

Wow, now THAT is an amazing story and a great piece of history! I'm glad its in the hands of someone who can keep that history intact.

(I have some showroom sample Micronauts/Microman toys in my collection.)

He is a great mego, like Spiderman, sort of a must-have.

I can't recall if my Trek's were type 1 or 2 when I was little. But I really prefer type 2 megos today, for poseability and physique. McCoy was my first one. My Dad brought home Spock for my brother and McCoy for me, at some point one of us got Kirk as well.

Turns out he was working across the street from Parkdale and noticed they had a dumpster outside as they were renovating their showroom. So, on his way home, he jumped in and looked around.

He pulled out a type 1 Cornelius and Zaius and type 1 Kirk and Spock, all perfect (with some rain on them) and a boxed Lizard. SO this beautiful sample Kirk was the product of the greatest "Dumpster Dive" ever.
That's wonderful! Man, Parkdale novelty--where would we be without them?

Kirk was the only Trek crew member I had as a kid (I also had a Neptunian and Keeper). Mine was type 2 though. When I think of Mego Star Trek, I think of Kirk.

I finally got my first T1 Kirk in a lot that included the Bridge playset and a bunch of figures. As a bonus, he was also the early painted lip version (so was the Scotty included in the lot). When I compare him to a T2 Kirk, he looks much better. I then realize how unnaturally "tan" the T2 Kirk looks. And the extra paint detail on the lips is a nice touch that adds more dimension to the already great sculpt.

No mego collection is comlpete without a kirk. Even if you only like the Waltons, you should have a Kirk in there with them, IMO.

That is a great story Brian. What a find.

I've still got my Kirk from when I was a kid. He's the only one left from the ones I had as a kid,so he's got a special place in my heart.

I gotta agree on this being Mego's best likeness. It really captured Shatner's attitude. Or "Shattitude," as the kids say.

I don't think I had him as a kid, but my brother was into Trek and had all the crew. He was a bit older and didn't like dolls, so they and his Bridge ended up with my heroes.

                            Nothing beats a T1 Mego!

I guess I was an oddball. I never got Jim T Kirk until I was in my 20s. I only ever had Spock as a kid. While I loved Trek, the Apes, WGSH, Micronauts, AT Joe and Star Wars came first in pecking order.

My buddy had Kirk though and we played a few times. Him with Kirk and me with SPock...Until I traded Spock away plus 3 other Megos(all WGSH) for Oberon (Force Commander's steed). UGH! DUMB DUMB DUMB....Do you have any idea how long it took me to replace those 4???????????????? lol.

I have the bridge crew now and a Klingon. Still awaiting the purchase of my first EMCE Trek. I really want Spock first, I guess because that's who I had as a kid. I will get JK as well someday soon hopefully.

Lots of us had ST Megos as kids, and the buying order was always Kirk first, Spock second, Klingon, Scotty or McCoy third. You just couldn't have a real ST adventure without the captain.

I remember getting all of the first wave of Star Trek figures at my communion party. They were all type-1. I really enjoyed playing with the Trekkers back then. I was a little annoyed that their was only one bad guy so I used to have the crew beam down to the "Planet of the Apes". Good times.

For some reason I have no desire to reacquire them or their repro versions.
