What lines did you complete first?

What lines did you complete first? Or at least try to complete?

As a kid I only had WGSH (including one titan)

I wanted to complete the 27 WGSH first 13 on marvel cards 13 on DC plus Wonder Woman

Then it was onto other WGSH Teen Titans, Tarzan and Isis to Complete my WGSH (though currently I am considering real AEs as opposed to teh repro stuff I have) I don't count JJ as one.

Next I wanted Trek but 2nd Series Aliens were out of my range so I completed Apes before finishing Trek. (I now have the 2 available of the 4 from EMCE)

    Apes were my next goal

Next I went with them Dukes. I already had my Jonathan Kent (aka Bo) and the others came cheap. I still don't care about getting coy and vance.

    then it was Chips

Then I got my OZ stuff next.

i got fonzie along the way but i decided that i didn't care enough about the rest of the gang so began the CTVT sets

CTVT - knights, merry man, monsters, westerns and pirates.

I wound up with Starsky and Hutch because they came with others.

I currently am grabbing up AJ stuff.

I think I completed mine as the figures became available. I didn't just concentrate on one line and only that line until it was done.

I'm assuming you mean as an adult collector.

WGSH was definitely the first line I finished. The only other lines I've finished came as opportunities to buy the whole line (Dukes, Starsky & Hutch, OMBC)

As a kid, I didn't even know what compromised the entire WGSH line. Sure, I had the catalogs, etc., I just always assumed there were more figures I didn't know about it. The Museum let me know I actually did collect 'em all.
      WANTED - Solid-Boxed WGSH's, C.8 or better.

As a kid the only lines that I collected were WGSH, POTA, and Star Trek. I had some Action Jacksons but I didn't really "collect" them because by the time I got into WGSH, the AJs weren't in "my" stores anymore.

The only line that I completed was the Mad Monsters since there were only 4 and I got them all on the same day. I didn't know about the two variants until this past December.

With WGSH I was short: Batgirl, Conan, Invisible Girl, Isis, the Alter Egos, and the Teen Titans. I wasn't even aware that Isis had a figure until sometime in 1979 when a friend showed me his. I never knew about the Alter Egos until this past December.

With Star Trek I was short: Lt. Uhura, Andorian, Mugato, Talos, and Romulan. Again, the "Isis friend" is the one that first showed me the second Aliens wave. Uhura I had seen but never bother to buy or ask for one.

With POTA I was short: General Urko and Peter Burke. I wasn't aware of the variant Soldier Apes until this past December.

As an adult Mego collector my POTA line is complete. And I only intend on collecting the DC portion of the WGSH line although I just picked up a Captain America from Maureen. I "may" go for the Robin Hood & the Merry Men line.

I collect so many different Mego lines, and bounce back and forth between them, the only line I've completed so far is the 12" Black Hole figures. I just can't focus! There are several lines where I just need one more figure though.

My story is the same. I don't really focus on completing a line I just get good pieces when I come across them. Maybe someday I'll complete some lines, close on several....

Planet of the Apes back in 87, they were abundant and plentiful, I had real trouble with Verdon and Burke though.

The second set I completed was Star Trek aliens, then the WGSH by 89. I stupidly sold it all in 1991.

Though I did have an order of what I was gunning for, I collected similarly to what Scott Evel and Wee said - if it is available for the right price - I'd get it then.

It was all WGSH first for me. I planned on stoppping there but I boght a huge parts lot that I planned to use mostly for customs. After getting it there was a lot of POTA stuff in it that I never even noticed. Putting pieces together I found that I had 3 complete POTA figures. So I went after the POTA line, then to Trek, Monster and so on as they became available.

Apes. My first true Mego love. Trek would be next. I've completed all the lines I've collected so far EXCEPT WGSH. I'm still missing Peter Parker.

None. I've tried to focus on just one line but it's never been easy. If I see a bargain,I've got to try to snag it.

My focus has always been on WGSH, and for years I sought to collect at least one high-grade example of every boxed Mego Super-Hero (boxes being my original packaging love).

After reading this thread, I hunted around and found these photos (dated December 14, 2000), taken just before I finally completed that original collecting goal. As evidenced by the photos, I have dabbled in other lines (Knights, Pirates, Monsters), but the WGSH line has always come first.

At the time, I was only missing a MIB Isis (I even had all the U.S. Fist-Fighters MIB!), and I was obsessed with finding her. Many MIB Isis specimens have surfaced on eBay since then, but I prefer higher grade specimens and in Y2K (remember that cheez-ball acronym?!), a decent MIB Isis was NOT readily accessible.

Shortly after taking these pictures, I finally realized my original MIB goal by (knowingly) overpaying Mark Huckabone for that missing MIB Isis. Mark is the ultimate 'go-to' guy when you're desperate.

It seems like a million years ago, but I still remember the joy of accomplishing that collecting goal. In fact, I never really cared that I paid too much for Isis; Acquiring that 'final' piece was an amazing feeling.

These days, I'm working on completing my "1st issue" card collection, so the hunt continues….

First of all - Great stories so far guys/gals. As far as my Mego collecting addiction goes the story is as follows. As an adult I still happened to have retained my General Ursus with the helmet after all of these years. Minus the original knife of course. I had found him in some boxes when moving out of the parents house many, many years ago. In addition I also found some of the original boulders that came with my long gone catapult, wagon set. This of course brought back many great memories for me. I was always an ape fan right from the get go. I have watched all of the movies a couple of times or so now and enjoyed them each time I viewed them. I had found a couple of apes Zaius and Corneilius at a local Toy show. I snagged them up. Then I got on eBay and started buying Mego's like mad. I also sold a couple of extras that I would pick up in the lots that I would buy. I finished the basic apes line first as they were the most easiest to obtain for me. This did not include all of the soldier ape variations at that time. The variations is what made me sick of HotWheels. Which I still collect today in a much lesser capacity then what I used to. I like most did not have no idea about the different variations until I joined here at the Museum in October 07. I did notice the different soldier ape variations on eBay and managed to snag them all loose over a short period of time. Bored with having completed the loose apes I started buying the carded apes as well. I also bought the loose and boxed ape play sets. I have several RC stallions both boxed and loose, a boxed and loose Fortress, a couple of boxed and loose Tree Houses, A couple each of boxed and loose catapult and wagons, The Thrown Chair and a bunch of other misc. ape stuff. Then I bought up the loose Star Trek line as these aside from some of the harder to find aliens were second easiest to get for me. I bought a couple of boxed Enterprise sets and a few loose Enterprise sets along the way. Now I have bunches of extra loose apes and Star Trek Mego's. I never was big into comic books as a kid. I had spent my money and my emphasis on collecting baseball cards at that time. Therefore, I really did not know a lot about ALL of the many characters in the WGSH line aside from what I call the basics. Batman, Robin, Super Man, Spider Man, Shazam, Riddler, Cat Woman, The Joker, Penquin and etc. all cartoons that I watched and seen as a kid. I heard of Aquaman and the Fantastic Four and some others although I was never really into them. So after completing the basic WGSH loose I went on to start finding "the others" as I called them. Now I am proud to say that I own all of the apes (loose and carded except for carded silver soldier ape), Star Trek (loose and carded) and WGSH loose and some carded. For me personally I do not really get into the boxed figures. (to each his/her own of course) Also I do not really get into what I call the "other lines" such as Robin Hood, The Knights, The Mad Monsters or other similiar Mego lines aside from the BIG 3 that I collected. Having said that of course I do have in my collection AJ, WOZ (completed loose), Dukes of Hazzard loose and some carded, Happy Days (loose and carded), Chip's (loose and carded), Starsky and Hutch (loose and some carded) a couple of boxed Knights, loose Monsters and some others that escape me right now . I have lots of probably what would be loose AJ parts?? as I have a lot of this extra stuff packed in totes that I simply and very easily obtained just by buying lots that had stuff that I really wanted to buy to complete my BIG 3 collection. I have not even begun to try and ID all of the many misc. parts that I have picked up over time I will eventually use some of them for customs. That is my plan for now atleast. Now that I am personally satisfied with my BIG 3 collection I am gradually moving on to doing customs. I am just starting out and I am the first to admit that I am not all that great at them being a newbie. Although everyone does have to start somewhere sometime. I do this for the fun and I am not profit motivated what so ever. I do sell some of my extra figures from time to time to those that are in need and want to buy. Personally I like to trade rather than sell. Most of the time I get newbies just starting out and they have nothing to trade so I sell to them at a fair price. I have helped some members here from time to time in their want lists. I have bought/sold/traded with newbies and oldies (if you will) a like and have had a great time here at the Museum. I like seeing all of the neat custom work that is done by the ever so growing talented line of members that is here. I am constantly amazed at the great work that those are doing with their customs. I only hope that within time I can turn out customs just as half as good as those that make it look so easy. Until then I will continue to learn from and enjoy the work of "the pro's". In the mean time I am currently working on what I call my own line of customs featuring Money Man, Cash Man, Major Coins and others that yet to be announced. I wanted something unique to set next to my Mego/EMCE collection when I had set out to do this line. I wanted something different than everyone else. So this is my new outlet for now. I like to think of it as figures of cartoons/movies that have yet to be created. In addition I also collect and support the EMCE line. I have all of the Star Trek line that is out so far both loose and sealed. I am not sure yet if I am going to bother getting the apes as I already have so many original Mego's of them. On the other hand I do wish to support and encourage EMCE. Therefore, I may go ahead and pick them up just to "have them" to complete my ever growing EMCE line. I really look forward to seeing new characters to be continued to be introduced to the EMCE line kind of where Mego left off. The Star Trek Sulu, Chekov and Khan are definitely great starts to a new beginning.
