MegoGeek's toygeek fest! (Now with pics!)

Was a wild weekend had some MegoHeads in town for a visit and a toyshow.

Mark Huckabone, Me (MegoGeek) and Yoda, Angel (MegoGeekJr), Dan (Dumbldor), Rob (rchatlin) and Daisy, Benjamin (Imp), Palitoy (BrAin), My good friend and fellow toy collector Sam, Bill (Surfsup).

Brian, Rob, Huckabone and myself babble in my toy room while Angel spaces out looking at the MIB Mego Wall.

Rob Chatlin flew in from California with Benjamin. After "knowing" him for almost a decade, it was an absolute delight finally meeting him in person. Rob has more vintage toy knowledge than anybody I have ever met, and on top of it he is a great, great guy.

World's Greatest Toys Author Benjamin Holcomb dominates "Slow Ride" by Foghat on Guitar Hero while Angel and Bill look on awestruck.

MegoGeekJr, the next generation of Mego collector, rocks some mean riffs! Angel is a great kid and a real toy nut. His brother had to work that night but was cool enough to drop Angel off to hang out for a while.

Bill (surfsup) gets his chance at Guitar Hero fame. Bill flew in from the UK....again, to hang out for several days and hit the toyshow. It's great having Bill around because my politeness and articulation increase about 10x when he is here.

All in all this was the best time yet we have had here in Chicago, the "geek factor" was off the chart, the only complaint is that it went by waaaaay too quick....oh. yeah...and I ran out of Beer! (Won't happen again guys, I promise)

Big thanks to everyone who made the long trips and also thanks to Dan and his wife for the hospitality on Friday and also to my wife for handling having 12 people in our house on Sat.

Nothing better than a week of toy geekdom. Brings a tear of joy to my eye. Almost like a little pre-Meet.
It's not a doll it's an action figure.

Looks like a fun time was had by all. I'd probably have that awestruck look that Angel has looking at your toyroom! Good stuff Charlie!

Looks like a lot of fun. Nothing better than getting together with friends and talking toys. So how was the toyshow?

It truly was a superfun "Nerd In", there was an infectous geek energy all weekend and like Charlie said, it went far too fast. The show was OK but the evening was far better. I think we all got better stuff trading amongst each other. I know I saw some pretty fabulous pieces floating around. I have some pics too, let me root around and find em.

I'm insanely jealous of you guys. Its very rare I get to totally "geek out" with friends like this. Charlie must be quite the host! Awesome toy room Charlie!

Man, that looks like it was a blast! Who's jealous?

Too hell with Mego's, I woulda been elbow deep in Charlie's Comic Collection.

Seriously, I admire and envy everyone's collection (Loose, Boxed, Carded), but if I had Charlie's Collection I would have displayed them just like that...like art...a preserved period of time.

I probably would have had my mouth open just like Angel.

                          Great Stuff Charlie...Sounds like y'all had a blast...I'm jealous

Hope you're comin' to MegoMeet this year.

                            Megogeek, Where Do You Live?

I noticed you're in IL. I'm in the northern suburbs of Chicago (Glenview). Good to hear there are more geeks in the greater Chicagoland area.

As usual, I had a blast, and the four days went by way too fast. I always get a little wistful as I am dropping guys off at the airport to fly back out and can't help wondering how many more times we'll be able to pull a weekend like this off.

Thanks to my wonderful wife Kristie for helping me organize the weekend and for giving me carte blanche with our resources for four days. I will be paying back for awhile.

Thanks to Sharon and Charlie for their hospitality on Saturday. It is always a treat to hang out at the Balicki pop culture palace.

Finally, thanks to Bill, Rob, Benjamin, and Brian (and Mark, who drove through the night from NY to hang with us) for doing the travelling (once again!) so that my toy geek friends could hang out again in my back yard. I do not take it for granted that I have such good friends in this hobby who are willing to travel to hang with me.

One last thing, guys I am woefully camera averse and did not think to snap any pictures all weekend. Please keep them coming. Any shots from my basement toy lair would be welcome.
