Kenner was the right company at the right time. They captured magic with those toys and I wouldn't trade Kenner's 3 3/4 inch Princess Leia for a Comic Action one.

You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return... -
Me too....as I pointed out, Mego could have gone as deep as Kenner's Star Wars with WGSH. Including the pocket heroes, but they didn't. They didn't even convert some of the obvious Comic Action Heroes to pocket versions like Joker, Penguin, and Shazam.
They had existing tooling from other lines that would have worked.
Take a Comic Action Joker torso and add Rosco legs = pocket Joker, or Boss Hogg body with Comic Action Penguin's head. Both those would have been cheaper to produce than original sculpts of Jor-El, Zod, and Luthor.Comment

Someone once noted that Kenner made 100 Star Wars figures from 1978-1985 and Mego only made 37 WGSH 8" figures from 1972-1982 and 4 of those were the Alter Ego exclusives and the 4 Teen Titans weren't wide release.
When Mego missed out on Star Wars Mego still had DC and Marvel. If Mego had stayed focused on those 2 licenses with new releases past 1977 and had not thrown MILLIONS at every new sci-fi property- Star Trek TMP, Buck Rogers, Black Hole (!), and Moonraker (I'm surprised Mego did not get Battlestar Galactica!) then Mego might have stayed in business.
When Star Wars hit in 1977 critics said superheroes were cold especially the Mego WGSH against Kenner Star Wars in 1978. I still watched Super Friends which was influenced by Star Wars (Legion of Doom Darth Vader HQ, Wonder Twins planet attacked by Darth Vader-like and Stormtroopers-like villians, SF travel into future which is sand planet with Creature Cantina and Jawas, Batman has lightsaber in his utility belt!) The Kenner 4" figures were easier to play with and I loved the vehicles and playsets and had some of the 12 Star Wars dolls. But I still can't help but wonder what Mego 8" Star Wars would have looked like and still do with FTC, Diamond. etc!Comment

Yeah, we would of gotten 10 different versions of Luke, Han, Obiwan and Darth Vader. Maybe an exclusive grimacing Luke. An exlcusive Han with a hat. An exclusve Darth Vader with a pair of shorts on. And none of them would of come with lightsabers or blasters. My posts were needlessly deleted ...Comment

For all of you claiming Mego wouldn't have done much, look past the 8" world and realize what was already on the shelves while Kenner was scrambling. If you don't think this line inspired them, you're wrong.
Also, let's look at a master toy license like WGSH, a pile of 8", playsets, vehicles, two 3 3/4" lines with vehicles and playsets of their own, 6" diecast and magnetic figures, stuffed and talking dolls, elastic heroes, a plethora of 12" characters. I think Mego would have done the same with Star Wars, if something sold, they extrapolated on it. That's a fact.I am more than machine. More than man. More than a fusion of the two.Comment
