The first 21 or so are very crude, but exude a classic charm. I wouldn't want to change a single one.

By the time of ESB, they were more on point with the outfits at least.

The 12" figures were well detailed, however.

I always wondered how things would be if Mego had picked up the license over Kenner. Would 8" have lasted longer? Or would 3.75" taken over as it did?

Would Mego invest in all of the ships and accessories that Kenner did? Just a few of the thousands of 'what if?' Scenarios we can speculate on.

The good ole days. This was such a critical piece when I was a kid for knowing what was on store shelves. So many stories of getting such neat figures from them. And the ONLY piece I have lost in all that time was a pricey one - A Mego Iron Man I never removed from it's mailer box. My mother threw it away in the 80's and I still grimace just thinking about it.

Nice to know all copies of this substituted some reds with pink. I thought it was just my copy!

I found a copy of this particular catalog (was it the Christmas 1980 one?) at a flea market around 1986 or 87. It was still close enough in time that I ALMOST contacted them to see if they still had any of this stuff.

Those ads made such an impact on me as a kid. Looking at them now, they feel as familiar to me as if I'd just seen them all yesterday.

Unfortunately, I never quite made the connection between marveling at all those ads/toys, and actually getting any of them. I didn't spend a lot of time in the toy aisles as a kid, and by the time I figured out the wonders of catalog ordering, I was more into ordering team jackets and digital watches and stuff..

Really the only memory I have of those ads affecting a purchase was being obsessed with the Spider-Man web-shooter, and begging my mom to buy one for me while we are at the local drug store..

What's amazing is that the Hero's World prices were really high compared to stores in my area.

Coming Soon from Mego: These nobodies!

I had all four of these guys, I guess that made me a Marvel kid although I didn't swear allegiance.

I've seen that ad. Gotta love the Ditko Lizard and Goblin, with the very early broomstick to boot!

That was a common sighting if you collected comics back in the early 70's. I never forgot my elation when I saw the Goblin and Hulk. That just blew my mind. I ended up having to order my Goblin from Heroes World though because, ONCE AGAIN, this character was a hard find in Louisville. There were enough Hulks to make a life size plastic Mego van, but not a Goblin to save my life. I was lucky though. I ordered him a month before we were suppose to go to Gatlinburg for a weekend getaway. My brother and I would always ride in the back of our Country Squire station wagon. I would bring a few choice Megos and my brother would have his little green army men. On the day we were leaving, I asked my dad to wait a few minutes because the mailman would be coming through any minute and I had a "feeling" Gobby would be in there. Sure enough the mailman came through and places a package inside the mailbox. Rapture! My Goblin would be along for the ride. And boy did I keep him nice and neat throughout the trip. Still have him complete to this day. A nice figure indeed. Type one body also.

I never got Gobby when I was a kid, but he was one of the Megos I LUSTED after.

My childhood Falcon was from Heroes World. I recall working hard in the yard to save that money. I was so anxious to receive it, & I felt like Ralphie awaiting his decoder ring until it came.
