We've been posting these on our twitter and facebook accounts but for some reason, no putting them up here. I'm not sure why I do that but anyway, I'll try to add a daily bit of Heroes World Goodness.

These books neatly summarized pretty much everything a pre-Atari me wanted in the world.
I don't think I ever got to order anything from the catalog. I was able to buy a lot of what was listed in local stores. There were definitely, however, several things I yearned for that I never saw outside those sometimes crude drawings. To this day, I still want those vinyl blow-up superhero pillows!
I never tire seeing old Heroes World ads. Moreover, after a recent Target toy section run, guess what I saw? Do you sense a similar 1978 flavor here, but today in 2014? (minus the "Energized" part, of course...)
The Remco Powerized and Energized toys are great! Those are very nostalgic for me. I had an Energized Superman and a Powerized Captain America when I was a kid. I really loved that Captain America.
Heroes World ads fueled my lust for Megos for years and years. I oogled and oggled Iron Man and The Thing and the Green Goblin--three figures I never had as a kid--and prayed some day they'd be mine.
These are always awesome to see. It's fun to see the specifics of ads from the old days. "Bank Americard" and "Master Charge", what are those? Four weeks for delivery? These days people lose it if takes more than a week to get something in the mail. A whopping 50 cents extra for Canadians? What an outrage! (and I'll bet these took two months or longer to be delivered to Canada back then! Oh, if you lived way out in BC you were totally screwed!)
I used to pore over those ads and fantasize about what all those toys would look like in real life. I think my childhood love for Mego's Micronauts and World's Greatest Super Heroes began right there (and luckily was rekindled as an adult).
I won 4 different Heroes World catalogs at a local estate auction a couple of years ago! Loved looking through them and especially seeing how cheaply toys sold for originally! $17 for Mego Wayne Foundation I believe!
In 1978 Kenner Star Wars 3.75" figures replaced Mego DC and Marvel 8" figures I'd played with since 1972! Looking back now I do wish Mego had gotten Star Wars license! The early Kenner SW figures are crude now and I can only imagine what Mego 8" Star Wars figures would have looked like with actors' likenesses!
