i think it's a great site and i don't care for 8" megos of any kind really. I am very critical of websites and this is a good free site. I enjoy the sub-catagories because it does attract people that collect " toys" in general. I enjoy seeing other collectors vast collections and also the people just starting out.
Would I go to megomeet and bond with everyone , No...Only because I'm not into things like that.
I enjoy the mego marketplace because there are other than MEGO posted. Maybe a non-mego marketplace would help people too.

I will say that there are a couple of people i have seen on here that seem to have that attitude that there's S**T doesn't stink but for the most part the site is great. And those people are ones that don't run the site.

I would hope that the people that hate the site or are critial would man up and say what they feel in this thread. I hate to see a love fest or " we love you all" posts....

Human nature is to say what you don't like - if people are happy, they just smile.
      No news is good news.

I'm as guilty as others for complaining about what I don't like, and enjoying silently
the stuff I do like. But there is no other place where I want to throw out ideas,
search galleries, and promote EMCE Toys.

The reality of a museum, virtual or otherwise, is that people love them and need
them - but seldom express it. That's what I like about selling something - people
show their love by buying things.

I try to remind myself that complaints are a sign of interest. When people don't
care about something, they are silent.

I view PS as an organic spinoff of the museum that crosses back over every now and then (like the POTA store appearance with the Mego toys in the background). And every subforum here is of interest to at least some sect of Mego collectors. Comic Books for most WGSH fans, Monster Movie Roundtable for Mad Monster buffs, etc.

To me, the Museum forum is the one stop shop for pop culture discussion that I care about. I don't post elsewhere very often anymore because there is no need. It's all right here. And it all grew from a love of a common set of toys...Megos.

If Mego had just made Action Jackson, and just kept plugging away at him and not expanded into WGSH, Trek, POTA, etc, think how limited this place would be?

Same goes for the forums here.

You guys do a great job. You'll hear no complaints from me. You owe me nothing but give me a fun distraction that helps make the day go by better, without fail, week after week, month after month.

          Thanks,

          Chris

              Mike,

              Red Foreman doesn't belong here because he's post-70s/70s pop-culture.

This is soooo very true. A few years back there was an accident about my place. I don't talk about it much but it was important enough to me that it nearly killed my Mego collecting for good. I used to keep the majority of my Mego stuff in a detached 10 x 10 shop behind the house. The shop was right next to the fence with an alley on the other side of the fence. Teens love to use the alley because they can smoke without being seen, and one stray lit butt kindled a grass fire which caught first the fence, then spread to my shop. Fortunately it was seen and reported (My wife and I were not home at the time), and it was stopped for the blazing fence and yard got to the house, or i would have been much, much worse. Still, the shop was a total loss - burned to the concrete foundation, with barely a few pieces of blackened and bent rebarr left behind. I lost 80% of my entire collection and all of my custom making equipment - everything I used to customize and restore. HazMat had to be called because of some the chemicals I had stored in the shed, and the EPA had to test the ground water to make sure the runoff from the fire hadn't polluted anything. Then there were the endless state and local forms, the insurance dance, the permits to rebuild, the cost to rebuild my toolings and materials, not mention my collection, and enough crap to just make me say "To Hell with it all!" Needless to say my enthusiam for collecting, customizing, and Megos in general hit an all time low. I dropped off the boards because I had nothing to say, and I dropped out of customizing and restoration for lack of materials, and I dropped out of Megos for lack of enthusiasm.

It wasn't even the first time my interest in Megos had waned - the flameout of the second Levy list kept me away from Megos for almost 18 months, and I missed the relaunch of the Museum because of that - but it was the deepest. If I hadn't already paid for my plane ticket to WV I probably wouldn't have gone to MegoMeet that June. But I did, and while I felt that I would probably not enjoy it as I had the previous year, at least I would get to see some of my board buddies. As soon as I got there I found what I had lost - Tom, Berto, Dave and Paul greeting me in the Lobby, people who had questions about customizing and vintage restorations, and "Hey did you see the rare item display upstairs?", and "Berto just finished his loose WGSH collection!", and "Let's hit the MegoSuite!", a preview of Ben's book, new friends made, and just like that I was back in Megos up to my eyeballs.

It's human nature for interest to wane over time. But for whatever reason my interest has waned, the Museum and the Mego Community have not only rekindled my interest but brought me back into the fold and treated me like I was never gone. That is a rare commodity in this life, and one that is I think too easily taken for granted. I'm sure at some point my interest will wax and wane as human nature is so prone to doing, but I hope and pray the Museum is here when the Prodigal decides to return home once again. "Where else would you rather be than right here, right now?"

You guys and gals are awesome.

I have not posted much lately because for the last month - a little over a month, really - I have been laid up with pneumonia and am having a devil of a time getting over it. It's really sapping me, I feel like scrappy doo, and I'm behind on everything.

But I wanted to echo what Brian and Scott said. If you don't like something, suggest how it can be better. Brian, Scott, and Dave have made this place something to truly be proud of, and I'd like to think I have also helped a little with the forum and the user galleries and Museum search engine and such, even if those things aren't as obvious as what they do. We know that 90% of you appreciate this and while thanks for always appreciated, they are not necessary.

People gripe. That is the nature of people. But if you gripe and don't suggest a way to make things better, you're likely to eventually be ignored. That is also the nature of people. Gripes are welcome and even appreciated as long as they are constructive and not just sour grapes.

Back to my deathbed now, under my rock.

This website is the #1 source for Mego collectors IN THE WORLD if you ask me.

You guys all deserve a huge thanks from us collectors for doing what you've done and continue to do.

I have only recently joined the Forums, but have followed this site since 1997 and love it.

                      Hey,
In veterinary medicine, at least the economic side, there is a motto:
20% of your clients create 70% of your wealth,
20% of your clients account for 70% of your problems.

With any organization, I find a close correlation to be true:
20% of the members do 80% of the work, and
20% of the members cause 80% of the problems.

I check the site daily, but find myself posting less and less. Truthfully, Mego's are not as high on my priority list as they used to be, but I do have three kids and work 7 days a week, so my free time has to be spread around a little more thin than normal. That is life. I also find myself reading and posting to the non-mego threads more than to the mego ones - I like a variation, and this site is able to offer that to me.

Keep it up, guys - those who appreciate your work may not be as vocal as we should, but believe me when I say that we are there for you.

I don't know what their problem is with Plaid Stallions. Brian posts the old pics,we critique them. It's fun and therapeutic to a certain degree.

i also think that very few of us have close friends that may share our pasion for toys in general. I have moved so many times I have friends all over the country that collect various things. But where i live now , I have no one to just hang out with that collect any type of toys. My wife humors me , but overall there is o good place.
I still come to MM because I enjoy the passion of the collectors here. I may never meet any of you guys in person , but if you needed anything i would be there if possible.

I think the bellyachers should all get together, and get the hell out of here.
Don't try to fix something that's not busted.

How can Mego Museum get any better ?
I dunno, but somehow it always does

I was never online until late 1998, when I was working nights and the bosses gave us internet access. this was one of the first sites I ever found and I've been looking at it ever since. Anyone who says that anything that ever happened on this site ruined the Mego hobby is nuts.
thanks to Brian, Joe, Dave and everyone else who has chipped in their time and efforts to keep it going!!
