Anyone who grew up in the Northeast or other major TV markets, especially if they are over 40 years old, were deluged with commercials starting with Action Jackson. With the ubiquitous "By Mego" ending to all of these commecials, we were taught the correct pronunciation at an early age:

Paul's definitely right on the mark.

I've found most people that mispronounce Mego are from a generation that have never seen Mego TV commercials on the tube.

They did DRILL the proper pronunciation in our heads

Not only AJ, but I clearly remember "BY MEGO" on a lot of Trek commercials

I'd have to agree. Even as a kid my Megos were referred to as my "Megos". It was drilled into us. I don't ever recall thinking of my Batman as a World's Greatest Super Hero. I am not even sure if I ever knew that information until I was much older. No one called their GI Joes "My Hasbros" or their Star Wars " my Kenners". Above and beyond the name of the individual toy line, the commercials were sure to hammer on "MEGO"

I vaguely remember a Mego commercial or two, but I must have been too young to pick up the name. I only knew of the name from the copyright inscribed on the back of my type 2 figures, and at some point I decied it said "Meg-o", just like "Leg-o". It wasn't until I went to a toy show in my late teens/early twenties that a dealer corrected me. It took a few years for it to stick, but I've referred to them correctly for years.
