I said it wrong for years too. Around a year ago, I made the mistake of telling my wife about my error. She corrected me until I got it right! What can I say, she's been training me for 8 years now, I guess I respond to her.

My question to both of you is this: Where do you even get the "a" sound to pronounce it that way?

It is MEE-GO, but as much as I don't like the mispronounciation of MEG-O, I can at least understand that going by the way the word is spelled... But MAY-GO? I just don't get it...

Other than maybe thinking they said "May I go" as in - may I go to the bathroom or something, the worst you should be saying is Meg (like Keg) and then the O (oh)
Capt. Kirk: "Is there anyone on this ship, who even remotely, looks like Satan?"
Mr. Spock: "I am not aware of anyone who fits that description, Captain"
Capt. Kirk: "No, Mr. Spock, I didn't think you would be"

I think I remember saying it the mee-go way even when WGSH first came out. Guess I was just a "me" centric kind of kid back then (and now too)
                It's all good!

Got into the habit of saying it right when they said how it was suppose to be pronounced in Toy Fare all of those years ago.

Sometimes when I tell someone about a Mego I have they ask "What's an Amigo?" I've never called them May-gos, but it sounds kinda cool. I think I'll use that for a while. Heck I even pronounce magazine as muh-gozz-in-ay. So it's all good.

                        It just doesn't feel right.
I guess the judge who denied Mee-go the right to its own name may have had a point

Well, if you are Belgian, it makes a LOT of sense...
We also say Lay-Go, not Leg-o.

I think a lot of the differences in how it is pronounced is due to TV and age.

Anyone who grew up in the Northeast or other major TV markets, especially if they are over 40 years old, were deluged with commercials starting with Action Jackson. With the ubiquitous "By Mego" ending to all of these commecials, we were taught the correct pronunciation at an early age.

That still doesn't stop me from thinking...

"You may be a Redneck if you pronounce Me Go as May Go or Meg oh...

I just thought it rhymed with Lego. I don't remember the commercials. I will now call them by their proper prononciation of Mee-go. But this is gonna cause problems for me on the Lego boards when I start calling them Lee-go's. ;0
