Any interest in a Portland gathering of Mego fans during PDX Comic Con? Feb 24th?

Ok, so in the Mego Meet section is a new member inquiring about whether Pacific Northwesterners gather to talk, swap, maybe sell Megos.

People have gathered in small groups in PDX and Seattle before. On Feb. 22-24 there is the inaugural Wizard Comic Con in PDX. I could possibly host a gathering at a higher end mom and pop pizza place in downtown Vancouver, WA which is less than ten miles from downtown portland and the comic con. We can have the whole restaurant to ourselves (seats 45) until 4:00 pm on that Sunday and the owners would let me run the oven and make pizzas, sell beer and such as i wish (it is excellent food).

I could bring my collection for show (and some trade) and I have some very good leads on local buddies with drool worthy collections who may wish to sell/trade also. People can bring their customs. On the big TV I can loop Mego commercials. We can play dolls. Local biker gangs can stop by and kick our asses, whatever. Anyway, I'm curious to see if ANYONE within this realm of North America would be interested in possibly attending. One problem I have, like this new guy, is the fact that I don't personally know a ton of mm members. But I look on these message boards and see some quite interesting members who seem to live in my backyard.
I chose the date only because of snaring as many possible mego fans as possible that may attend Con, but that is negotiable.

I would be interested. We live in SE PDX and we haven't tried a lot of Vancouver restaurants. Even if a meet-up doesn't click on these boards, shoot me an E-mail and we can at least connect at the Con. benjamin (at) worldsgreatesttoys.com

I used to travel to Portland for the Phoenix Comic conventions through out the 70s and 80s. I'd love to attend a Portland Mego show/meeting. Just one request, Make it a Sunday. I have to work on Saturdays.

OK! This blind shot in the dark is starting to take (small) shape! Anyone who posts on this thread I promise to eventually pm you. Once again, this is the tentative plan...
-A very informal Mego gathering hopefully for swap, sell and show (customs and original mego) or anything you think might be of interest to the vintage hobby
-Sunday, February 24 (same weekend as Portland Wizard Comic Con) from say 11:00 to 3:00-ish at Vancouver Pizza Co. 2219 Main Street Vancouver WA, 98660. Whole restaurant space is ours and besides pizzas, they have calzones, sandwiches, and an extensive locally made gluten free menu. Also 10 beers on tap and wine available. I will work with the owners for reduced rates for everyone.
-I will bring and display my wgsh collection for fun eye candy. I have about 85% of that series with packaging (non-brag alert, most of my packaging is rough, it is just for fun). Bring your kids and I will bring my extensive beater megos for ACTUAL PLAY (gasp!) Store is also stocked with vintage board games already.
-Crucially, I will try to round up local collectors who are sitting on Mego gold to sell. If I have to, bribery with food and transportation will be part of my arsenal. Getting decent mego stuff available for sale is probably most important to draw people so I will make that my priority. No promises but I will keep you posted on this. I am hopeful in regards to leads.
Please post on this thread if this sounds possible for you to attend and that way I can pm you details.
If anyone has attended Mego Meet, do NOT compare with similar expectations! I'm making this up as I go along! Ha!

Sounds great! Count me in. I'll try to stock up on some Laser Mego stuff and bring it along with maybe some work-in-progress pieces.

Now this is a much better idea.

Mike, great job and glad you have a space to coordinate and gather. Count me in.

My favorite toys and favorite food.... together in one event! You should call it "Mego Eat".
I will be attending for sure. I'll bring a few things, too.

Now this turnout will be by far the best Mego gathering I've attended. Certainly do enjoy talking shop with the PDX peeps. Now we just need to get more Seattle folks down there.

Holy crap! It's working! Thanks also to Cap'n Mike from the Mego Meet thread who started this conversation. Seattle Ed, if you can put your feelers out up north that would be great. I just confirmed the whole spankin' restaurant to ourselves. for Feb. 24, 11-3pm. Restaurant regularly opens at 4 on Sundays so lingering is allowed. My mego selling leads are very receptive to coming with vintage mego for sale (these are not professional toy vendors but fellow collectors with good stuff, I want to keep this gathering about fellow mego fans rather than commercial businesses...they will all be busy that weekend with Comic Con anyway)
"Mego Eat" is now officially the name of this DIY, thanks to Lonnie!

I've contacted those that have attended gatherings in the past so hopefully some more Seattle peeps will show up.

Mego-Eat? I love it. We should get shirts made! I used to commute from the SW Portland suburbs to Vancouver for a job, so I'm quite familiar with the drive. Its not too bad.

                            T-Shirts would be cool.
Is it possible, that Sunday being the last day of the comic con, "Mego-Eat" may get some spill over? 45 seating sounds great, but could it turn into standing room only? I guess anything is possible. Thanks Mike, your party sounds great. I'll do everything I can, to be there.

Of course I'll have to bring my 'Very Attactive Wife', cause I married her. It's OK cause she fell for me over the art thing, and she thinks it's so cute that I make dollies. Excuse me, 'Man-Dollies'. We reached an agreement on that one.

The restaurant seats 45 comfortably but I know it has seated up to 55+. I think we would be hard pressed to find a good tasting restaurant that would give us the sole run of the place all afternoon. I love everyone's optimism! T-shirts! Plus more I can't reveal right now (wink!). Past Portland gatherings have been 4-8 people max. If the reservation list breaks 40, we can talk different location possibilities. But that hasn't gotten to that...yet!
