    There's A Fire.....

So the Sad Mother post reminded me of a conversation I had years ago with a bunch of collector friends...

Let's say there's a fire (all your loved ones are safe and all that) but you have time to save just one toy in your entire collection.....just one.....what do you grab.....

It'd be a toss up between my beat to heck 3 3/4 inch Decker, my beat to heck Super Powers Superman missing his cape, or my
Baker Smurf. Which one depends on who is closer to me as I run out the door in a George Costanza manner knocking over old Ladies and children while screaming like a little girl.

All my crap can be replaced but those three. Those are my original childhood pals, and the memories attached to them mean more than anything else to me.

I'd be in my display room tossing megos out the window till the flames were all but kissing me, then I would dive out the window. However, to answer the question, my boxed CIPSA Bill would be the ONE.

If I had time to run back in, I can ASSURE you I would be grabbing more than one item...The question from my perspective is, who would be coming in to bring me out.

I don't have a huge collection of Megos. Maybe 100 figures including re-Megos. They're mostly all standing close to each other atop my records/DVD shelf. I can invision myself shoving most of the figures (with one clean sweep) into a large Tupperware container and b-lining it for the closest exit. But I'd trip on something, drop the container, & watch in horror as all my figures would melt in the flames they just fell into...... But to answer the question- My boxed Lego Galaxy Explorer, Castle & Black Seas Barracuda Pirate ship....

Can a tote be considered one? All my high dollar stuff resides in them.
SS, ape models a few other bits. Maybe more once I rearrange them.

One a side note: after the fire that went thru the store that's connected to this building, which only a fire wall separated, I make every effort to have insurance! I did NOT have it at that time!
                        Everything had smoke damage!
I do have pictures of it, btw.
I hate thinking about this, but you gotta be ready!

Probably my Phantom Limb. Because it's the first gift my oldest son picked out on his own for me for Christmas. He put alot of thought into it, knowing I liked Limb & Orpheus both.

We lost power last week; didn't think much of it. The wife called the power co. "Huh," they said, "you're the first to report the problem." A few hours passed...nothing. On my way home from work, I drove around and looked at the houses surrounding mine. All had power.

I went inside and flipped the main breaker. Nothing. Then I went outside and looked in the yard, at the transformer box, at the ground where the wire runs, and at my meter. The meter was fried. Like, scorched. The glass dome had popped slightly off because the seal under it had expanded from heat. The top of the meter (metal) had burst in one spot. Black soot ran up the front of the meter and over top of it. It scared the bejabbers out of me. Somehow, my wood framed & wood-sided house didn't catch fire (knock wood). The guy from the elec co said that in houses with underground power lines, sometimes the ground's settling can pull the ingoing wires loose, which eventually results in a mess.

So, yeah - you just never know.
