I love that the question specifies ONE item, and virtually everybody is trying wiggle out multiple items. Play along people! Your stuff isn't REALLY going to burn. There has to be ONE thing that is special... your first, your only, your best, most unique, most expensive whatever.

I have a Madelman figure. He is loose with only uniform and boots. He is the early type with the big head and glass eyes. He is also the sole survivor of my childhood. I don't display him or anything. Mostly I get him out a goof around with him when I'm down or stressed. He is weirdly important to me. That is the one thing I would save.

One toy? Easy. I have a MIB Mego Spider-Man from when I was a kid. Never opened, perfect condition. Gift from my grandparents (RIP), also my favorite superhero. That's it.

I get the underlying gist of your question... But not a great subject to use to get your answer when asking a guy who made a living for 25 years as an industrial firefighter!

My most cherished Mego that I value tops is a Batman(MC) and Robin always seated in thier Mego Batmobile. I have them resting on the floor of my room and every once and again I give it a roll across the floor. The twwo figures rarely leave thier vehicle. So you cant ask me to stop in an emergency situation and take the time to remove one or the other. I probably have more expencive toys and Mego's about. But these are the ones I remember from when I was a child. No they are not the ones I originally had as a child. BUt I thank God I was able to find these replacements.

Thats the crux of the game....its only ONE item. What always gets me is that when asked this question usually people have a hard time picking just that one thing and a lot of times its also a toss up between the sentimental childhood toy that only means something to you personally vs. the really expensive something they have.

For me, I have a Dankin Dog (its a plush dog stuffed with crushed peanut shells.) They are quite rare but I've had mine literally since the day I was born. It was my very first toy ever and bought for me on my actual birthday and placed in the crib at the hospital. It's survived with me all these years and would be the one thing I would grab without question.

I'll follow the rules. Cold hard logic would make it easy to pick the one toy which by far cost me the most, and would likely be the hardest to replace (12" Lili Ledy Han Solo). But while I'd be happy to save it, I would definitely mourn the destruction of the rest of my collection, which took decades to build and includes many childhood owned items. It would probably be really hard to get the incentive to practically start from scratch again. I often wonder if in such a situation I would even have the heart to remain in the hobby or just give up entirely.
