    Kristy McNichol

I was doing the antique, shopping deed with my wife this past summer when my she spotted a Kristy McNichol figure in the box. My wife did not get anything from the store but I walked out with the figure, while she questioned my sanity the rest of the day.

I purchased a bunch of loose figures with one of them being some kind of Mego on Ebay. I don't remember what they are, but my main purpose was to change out the heads and use them as an astronaut so I could sew an ANSA outfit. One of them is not even Mego and it's 1/6 scale and has a broken nose...I'm thinking of converting it to an ape by sculpting over his features. We'll see how THAT goes!

Samples of my work are found here: Life, Liberty and Pursuit of Happiness

      To do list:
1:6 boots for Mathilda, 1:1 Romulan Commander outfit, Ursus helmet; Cornelius appliance
      1:9 scale ape's new suit for Cornelius;

Mine would have to be the 24" plush King Kong. He's Mego, and he goes well with my other movie monster toys, but my two Mego Kongs are the only stuffed toys in my collection (except for some older small Kamen Rider and Ultraman kaiju plush toys that I don't have on display right now)

For me I think it would be Ace Frehley, I am not really into KISS (although I went through that phase as a teen) and wouldn't put him on my want list but there he is now, in my toy room.

Even if you're not into KISS, you can't deny that is one sharp lookin' toy. I'd probably put the KISS figures, and Ace in particular, as one of my top five best looking Mego toys ever.

My "weirdest" purchase wasn't really weird I guess, at least not to Mego collectors. I found a really clean and nice Type 1 body in a box of "doll" stuff at a flea market a short while back. No clothes, no head, just a nude body. I paid a buck for it, haha. Obviously that's not so odd to us here at the Museum forum, but the look on the sellers face, as well as my wife's, was rather priceless. The woman selling the doll stuff seemed a bit confused as to why I was so excited to find a naked decapitated body! My wife knew why I bought it but still sighed anyhow

              lol, get ready for mine.
remember, get ready to lol. I bought a lot of smashed up Karate Kid figures when I don't even collect them.

              ...strange.

Mego wise though, I think all of my purchases where odd and largely time consuming.

Oh yeah, no denying that it's a very nice looking piece. It's pretty much just a gift to eighteen year old Brian, who always wanted one. Since I got that one, I've been looking for deals on boxed KISS, they really don't happen much.

Well, this isn’t necessarily odd per se, but 2007 was an atypical year for me.
I’ve been a Mego Collector since 1973; (even at the age of 7, I realized that I wanted a set to play with and a set to remain unplayed with.)
I’ve even gotten a few Repros, customs, and originals online over the years, but nothing like I’ve been doing the past few months.

Getting the EMCE Kirk and Klingon really set off some sort of pre-programmed trigger: I immediately ordered the CTVT Space:1999 Repros I’ve always wanted.

No sooner did they arrive, than I placed an order with the good Doc for his Koenig head and various parts to make some customs I’ve had in mind. Then Halloween was approaching, and I impulse ordered a set of CTVT’s Monsters and their awesome Skeleton figure. That box came in under 3 days ! I just had to have Mego Monsters this particular Halloween: in my 40 years of life, I never even had the slightest interest in Mad Monsters. Until 2007.

Now, I stop in my local Comic Shoppe every single Wednesday on my way home looking for EMCE’s Repros.

My ’08 Plans involve Andorians (acquired ! ! !), completing my CTTV collection (Space:1999, Knights, Robin Hood, Pirates, and Western – I will skip the rest), EMCE’s Trek and Apes, and eBaying more original Megos I never had (and not being Reproed).

And oh, yes, there will be Didas to put them all in……

                  It is a sickness.

For me it would be the 1 Million BC figures that I bought on beat up cards. I took 2 off the cards and now have them as "humans" for my POTAs, looks kind of cool.

                    Now I want Mada <sigh>
