    A very sad Mother...

Hello all. Being new to this group, I'm sorry if I've posted this message in the wrong category. I also am sorry, in advance, for the sad tone of this introductory post. I've been hesitating for 2 weeks to sign up and post this, but at this point, I figured it couldn't hurt.

I grew up in the 1970's, and I loved Megos (I was a bit of a Tom Boy). I am now a single mother of 2 boys (ages 10 and 12). I've made it a point, since they were born, to build a collection of Megos for each of them. Over the past 12 years, I have managed to give each of them a nearly complete set of loose Megos (mostly the 8" Superheroes and Villains, Knights, Robin Hood, etc and some of the 12" figures, too). Being single, it's been tough to do this, but this was a plan I conceived at my first child's birth, so I saved and planned carefully. My children absolutely loved them.

The story gets sad now... Just a few days before Christmas, our tree caught fire. The fire badly damaged over half of our home, including their room. Both of their Mego collections were completely destroyed in the fire, and it broke their hearts, along with mine.

There is simply no way that I can re-build their collections quickly, or even before they "grow up." As I said before, it took me 12 years to build their ost collections.

This is where I do what I've never had to do before now, swallow my pride and ask for help. I'd never do it for myself alone, but these are my kids. If anyone out there has any Mego(s) they could part with, my children and I would be so grateful. I'm also having to rebuild other parts of my home that were destroyed, so I am unable to pay you anything. I am ashamed to have to do this, but if there's any chance that this will help me re-build even part of my kid's collections, then the shame I'm feeling is a small price to pay.

I am not trying to scam anyone, which I've been accused of more times than I can count recently, when I posted a request for assistance on another board. I can understand why some, or most of you might think this, and there's nothing I can do to prove otherwise. Please understand that my kids and I are going through a terrible time right now. If you can't believe me, as I said, I understand. All I ask is that you not be harsh with me on this board. Just forget about me. I don't think I can handle much more negativity at this point. Thank you.

If you are in a position to help us out, *please* do send me a message so I can give you my mailing address. As I said, we would be so very grateful.

    Sincerely,

    Stephanie

Hi Stephanie , I'm so sorry to hear about your troubles that must've been horrible...I'm sure a lot of folks would love to help you out, but as the previous board you asked in..probably told you, there are a lot of scammers out there and we've had our share here

but these are mostly good people, Not that you're lying or anything but I'm sure some people would want to feel secure about it with a little proof.....Maybe some won't need it, But I know I would just to feel safe about it..Pm me your full name and addy just to verify it if you don't mind and I'd gladly send a little something and I'm sure others would as well

If a mod thinks my post is in appropriate , please feel free to remove it and I apologize...and again I'm not trying to be a jerk...but we have a bunch of hard working members here that just don't have stuff or money to give away
    Thanx and good luck

That is a shame. I am sure we would all love to help out. We also have a section of our forums to post pictures of your collections. We would love to see what you had built up for the little tykes. Perhaps that will help us see what might be replaceable.

Your first post and you're begging for free collectible toys from strangers? Pardon me for being skeptical. It would be different if you were a regular poster and we all knew you, but how can we possibly verify anything you say is true?

I'm sorry, but there are just too many red flags here.

          Hi Stephanie,

A similar thing happened to my friend Janie. She had a house fire and it destroyed her Shaun Cassidy collection. I did what I could to replace some of what she lost. I'm sure there are folks here who would love to help you, but sadly many have been scammed. I know it wouldn't be the same, but maybe you could replace some of them w/ repros. EMCE has Star Trek and made POTA, and our old pal Doc Mego has a great site to buy parts. Maybe your boys would have fun making their own Megos. Just a thought. Good luck to you.

            Hi Stephanie,
A long time has past for me but i lost my entire toy collection that i started as a kid to an apartment fire some years ago now. I was moving in with my girlfriend at the time and had most of my cloths already there. I was lucky i wasn't home when the fire started in the apartment next to mine. I had been collecting since i was about 12 with the idea of someday opening a toy museum or my own store. My life changed after that but i still had my life. There is nothing you lost that is more important than the fact the 3 of you are fine today. There are things you can do to prove your story and i hope you understand even though there are plenty of good people here who will help, most will need more than your word this stuff happened. It took me several years to even talk about my fire. Basically what i'm saying is expect some to ask questions. This place has some of the greatest souls on earth as members, but like you have already heard people have been scammed before. My heart goes out to you tonight. You will be hearing fro me more over the next few days. I don't have much myself but i'm sure i can offer something when the time is right. God Bless you Stephanie and your 2 children.

                Hey there, Stephanie;

So so sorry to hear about the fire and the loss/damage not only to your sons' Mego collections, but also to your house in general. I'm just glad no one was hurt. Material things, even Megos, can be replaced in time, but lives are irreplaceable. Hopefully, there will ultimately be some silver lining to this sad event. Prayers go out to you and your kids...
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

holy cow c-shop, that is truly a sad sad story. Unbelievable.

I too like to share my megos with my kids. I mean, it is so much fun - I can fully get where you would like to share that sort of joy. I don't know what I would do if this happened to me. I think I would be crushed.

My sincerest wishes for a quick resolution with your insurance folks for rebuilding your home, your life, and your collections; and my warmest thoughts to your boys. I am glad no one was injured.

Might seem harsh, but I think a "nice try" might be in order here.
