How would you spend $1000?

So...let's say your starting from scratch building a collection or maybe your collection gets wiped out (God forbid) and you only have $1000 to replace it.

What do you buy?

I think I'd work on loose WGSH.....pick up a few of the common characters...then add some of the nicer ones....pick up a Hall of Justice....and see what's left.

I'd go in this order...my prices are prolly off but I'll shoot high assume their minty loose:

2. Batman $65
3. Robin $40
4. Spidey $40
5. Cap $85
6. Iron Man $85
7. Riddler $80

I would take the $1000.00, place it in a mutual fund, and then grow it to the point I could replace my collection to the level it was at.

You don't realize that when you buy them over the course of years or even when you see them all sitting on the shelf. I prefer to keep that fact a secret. But I still maintain that the overabundance of repros has really killed some lines. I see an ivanhoe and a lafitte originals with repro accessories sitting on ebay for very little with no bids. That would have never happened a few years back. But at least whoever wants them can now get them. (sigh)Too bad no-one wants them.

I will always maintain/agree that the repro market hurts people who sell incomplete figures but then so did ebay (there is a much larger pool of poor condition figures to buy from). Casual fans don't care they just want one that looks nice and the repro is IN THE PACKAGE. for dedicated megoheads usually repro is a placeholder until they upgrade to a nice vintage one (that's me) or they wont have repro at all even if it means the figure isn't displayed. If a complete vintage version of one of these figures comes on the market it sells well. Also don't forget timing. Many of the older mego collectors are expeinceing child rearing which cuts down on the toy money. Younger lines like Transformers have fans who usually don't have kids yet and older lines (60's Joe capt action etc) have fans who have had lots of adult years to build their collections.
