Circus World Store 1976

Growing up in a town without a mall proper, for me it was Kmart and Kresges. Kresges was the coolest for me though. My mother worked downtown at Sears. It wasn't a cool Sears with a toy section though. A few times a year I would have to take a bus downtown after school and hang there until she got off work. I'd get to go to Kresges, usually buy a new toy and sit at the counter in the middle of the store and get a hotdog. It was awesome!

I loved Circus World and since my family's entertainment was going to the mall at least weekly I split my time between the Arcade, Circus World, and the "Wags" restaurant.

What brings back the most memories though for me is that fabric draped bin out front. They used to fill those with 99¢ "Mystery Bags" which were white lunch style bags with question marks all over them....with the top folded over and stapled. Inside were various toys...usually junk but man we used to pick those things up and shake them like crazy to try and figure out what was inside. I think mostly it was those little rubber super balls.....the cheap plastic parachute army men...erasers....tatoos...some jax and balls....marbles...etc.

Wow..this makes a lot of sense...because the stores were always inside the Walgreens....some even had the old timey "Soda Counter" where you could sit and drink coffee or whatever.

By the way Brian...that looks to be an actual film still. Is this he case? Maybe a search on E-bay can yield one as I wouldn't mind owning that still at all. It's really the clearest pic of Mego Heroes live in their environment back in the day...at retail. Thats is if the film was shot in an actual store and not a set...

Yeah I got it at a Movie Poster shop about 20 years ago Lou, just flipping through the 8 by 10s waiting to talk to the owner when "HELLO!". I'm sure you can find a copy cheaply if you scower ebay.

No doubt Brian. I will diligently search for it. Just a nice shot to have for obvious reasons. I wonder if there is a color version of that shot somewhere as well. I've finally decided to break down and pick up a copy of "The Toy" so I can see this scene again whenever I want. I also dropped off those negatives I told you about regarding that Superhero Revue show I have pics from. The negatives came back to CVS with a note that said they stopped processing those kind of negatives back in 2002 sometime. They provided me an address that I can send them out to to get them processed and I will get on that after the Holiday!
