Mego Of the Week: Robin #1

    By Scott A.

Today’s Mego of the Week is Robin, from the World’s Greatest Super Heroes line. Having been introduced in the initial wave there are now quite a few variations in the suit for the character. These include ribbed sleeves, plastic snaps, paper emblems, and opaque belts. One question that remains: Did he ever come with a vinyl cape? For more information on this piece visit the Robin page at the Mego Museum.

The Mego Robin has always been a personal favorite of mine. Although I acquired an authentic RM version many years ago, I still covet the original painted mask one that I still have from my childhood. Batman saved his arse more than a few times. But Robin got through it unscathed.

Oven mitt goodness!! One of Mego's better early designs, in my opinion. Great looking figure.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

I love Mego Robin, b/c he looks just like the Robin in the opening of the 60s Batman series:

Needless to say, Robin is one of my favorite characters, and one of my favorite Megos. The spit-curls baffled me a bit, but I figured they were based on the animated opening of the 60s tv series, until I found an old World's Finest 80 page giant at a flea market!

Another "wanted it" but my Batman was forced to fly solo unless I was visiting a friend whose brother had one. Today it's the only figure I own variations of (1 T-1 with elastic belt) and a standard T2.

We're going to touch on a different Mego a week. Some common, some not common. From all lines and all sizes. Let's see if we can generate some discussion on the toys that brought us all here in the first place. The more the merrier.

I only had one Robin, and I guess it was pretty early on, because I never knew Robin had anything but an elastic belt until I came to the Museum. To this day, the elastic belt looks "right" to me.

I still have original Robin from my childhood and even managed not to loose the gloves. Unfortunately I lost the emblem and tried to draw an "R" on it as a kid. I certainly regret doing that now with replacement emblems available.

That is awesome! Drawing the "R" logo was what made the figure yours. That's the type of things we did as kids back in the day. No remorse no regret. At least you can always look at it and say that is MY Robin from your childhood. There is no other like it.

^^^I agree. I have some Megos that are pretty beat up, but I keep them away from even my kids playing with them because they were my own from when I was a kid. I have a Supes that I glued on a hand made logo. Or my RM Robin's mask where the elastic came off one side and I asked my mom to sew it back on. Very priceless to me.
                              It's all good!
