Did you deny yourself the Supergals?

Listening to Ben's podcast about not buying Batgirl as a kid brought up some powerful memories. I wanted the Supergals badly as a child but just couldn't bring myself to buy them.

I would circle them in the heroes world ads, sometimes filling out the form then scratching them out in case a friend saw that I was ordering Catwoman and Batgirl (who i never saw in person until I was 17)

Pinnochio's toys had a boxed catwoman that I chickened out on for literally a year.

But I think my greatest folley ever was walking past Dominion Playworld circa 1977 and seeing her....



Cue heavenly aura, Supergirl! She was real, I'd never seen her, I grabbed it immediately. The reality sunk in and I put her back on the peg. I used to think I bought a Dr McCoy but the timing is wrong, I think it was my second Riddler (my type one Riddler had bust and I never could figure out how to reassemble them).

Anybody else covet the Supergals or did you have them and proudly play with them?

Luckily I have a sister, and she had Wonder Woman, Catwoman and Supergirl, so I had them available to play with along with my superheroes when no one was around (I think I played with them more than sis did)

I got Catwoman because she was part of the Bat-villain group that I wanted, inspired by the '66 reruns...strangely though I never asked for Batgirl.

Never had any of them as a kid. If felt that if I gave into my temptation of wanting one then I'd have to admit I was playing with dollies. My first supergal was Supergirl and she's my favorite!

I don't think I would have bought them as a kid. I only saw any of them once, though. We went to an Uncle Bill's that had almost every figure. I picked up Thor (also the only time I saw him). Maybe if I saw one with all figures that I already had. But even then I'm not sure I would have gotten one of the gals. My brother said he wanted a Wonder Woman and would have gotten her for sure.

When it became difficult to find the boy figures that I didn't have I broke down and got Isis and Wondergirl. A couple years later I lost interest in my megos and stored away teh boys neatly in a couple tin lunch boxers. The 2 girls got destroyed.

As a kid, I don't remember ever seeing Supergals in the store.
I didn't know they existed until I started semi-collecting in the early 80's with the exception of IG.
I'm wondering if my local depart stores even carried them at the time.

I never got the girls figures, nor was I really interested. My female cousin close to my age had a 12" Wonder Woman and she would interact with my 12" Batman, Superman, Hulk, and Spiderman.

There were already too many of the boy figures that I wanted.

Now as an adult collector, I do have a new appreciation of the female figures they did make (and wish they made).

I'm sure I had at least a Catwoman,if I didn't have a Batgirl with her. Don't really remember Wonder Woman too much otherwise I would've had her as well. She'd have to be part of my Superfriends gang.

For me it wasn't the Supergal's, it was Zira. I needed her to complete my set. My father really tried to talk me about of buying a "girl doll", but in the end he caved. I felt weird about buying that "girl doll", but I was anal enough even back then where I had to have the set.

I had Batgirl but remember feeling like I was playing with a girl toy. I still wanted Supergirl, Catwoman and Wonder Woman but was to afraid I would be made fun of. Funny, I remeber having Uhura and that didn't seem like a girl toy to me. She was just one of the Star Trek crew.

I had them all! As a matter of a fact I would want to buy another wonder woman or supergirl or isis over getting one of the guys. I had serveral of each gal growing up. batgirl and catwoman I had the least of, maybe 2 each. Wonder Woman I bet I had half a dozen of them at one time. I even had the 1st issue gals and when the new one's came out I had to get them too.

Once in a while I'd grab superman or robin or even Iron man and when the titans came out I liked them too but for me If i got a mego it was a supergal or a playset. I did get IG too when I seen her.

I never saw any of the supergals as a kid, and back then i would have passed them up feeling they were a girls toy, i do rember seeing Zira and Uhura, and i passed on both

They got into my house under the guise of a present for my sister.
