I don't hate repro stuff, but I want my collection to be all original. I did buy a few figures that had repro stuff on them, but I'm trying to find the original parts to complete these

His repros are top notch.
I found a Superman at my local comic shop last night. It was a little worn but I picked it up for a potential Clark Kent kit bash. I thought I might use the original boots on a Captain America with Doc's repro boots but his repro boots look a heck of a lot better than the originals!
I've placed three orders with Doc since December and I am really pleased with the quality. My Thor has a hammer, Tarzan has a knife and I have parts for a lot of upcoming customs. When he gets in a Peter Parker head, I'm gonna place my next order.
Thank goodness for Doc Mego!!!Comment

Hate 'em. Don't understand why anyone would accept a counterfeit accessory (let's call them what they are) on a Mego. And let's not even get into a discussion of how treacherous it has made the secondary market for buyers of vintage WGSH (especially ebay), when so many sellers are "not experts on old toys" and fail to disclose counterfeit parts.
There are sooooo many counterfeit parts in circulation now, and so many over-inflated Benbarb auctions every week for counterfeit-laden figures (that owners will eventually re-sell), that the market for clean vintage WGSH is going to get more and more difficult to traverse . I wish counterfeit parts had never existed, but let's face it, they're never going away. I understand their appeal to the casual collector who doesn't want to invest as much $$ into a 100%-vintage item, but I do wish the serious collecting community was less accepting of them.Comment

protest too much
And yet I don't recall you ever contacting me about replacing
those gloves. Some of the blue gloves I got from China a while
back were prone to splitting - about 5% based on my records -
and I have always been glad to replace any item that any one
has had a problem with.

I think one of the problems is the origin of this beast. It's a 30-40 year old toy that was marked to kids to be played with. It's also not like a sport card, stamp or coin where it's one contained item but something that has many pieces that can be lost or damaged with said playing. A LOT of original stuff is gone for good and if everyone only wanted 100% original figures there wouldn't be enough to go around for everyone that would like to have them and then the cost would be even higher and fewer people could have fun enjoying these figures for the first time or reliving old memories. I think it comes down to your personal preference - toy to be enjoyed and played with or collectable where everything being original to have maximum value is what's important.
I can understand those that want only original figures and feel the same about unmarked repro items but for me I can't and wouldn't spend the kind of money that some all original figures are going for. If I couldn't get a cheap figure that needed repro boots, gloves or a cape I probably would have gotten most of the figures that I have gotten lately and wouldn't have figures that I never had the chance to own as a kid. I'm glad for repro items but do think they should all be identifiable.
The only other collectible that I can think of that might have this same discussion is classic cars, pay for an original piece IF you can find it or a new fabricated piece that looks the same.
My two cents for what it's worth.
Probably not even that much.Comment

As someone who wants toys that can be played with, or used for customs, I love repro parts.
I figure one way or another, somebody would be doing repros. By letting it happen out in the open, though, it is handled ethically. Things are labeled accordingly. There is information about how to tell a vintage part from a reproduction. Etc. To me, that seems better than the alternative.
Yes, some sellers do not properly disclose things on eBay. This has been true since the beginning of time, and if all repro parts magically disappeared overnight, it would still be an unfortunate part of toy collecting in the internet age.Comment

There seems to be two schools of thought - one is the carded collectors
who want their vintage MEGOS to be unopened and mint. The top
layer of this group trade back and forth the ultra rare carded figures
that most of us will never have.
The other school is the loose, boxed, and customizing MEGO fans
who - would prefer original accessories whenever possible - but
think it's more important to play with the toy rather than worship it.Comment

Without the repro replacement knee pin for my 12" Incredible Hulk, my favorite childhood Mego figure would be lame and useless.
Thank you Doc Mego. You have no idea how much I appreciate such a small piece of plastic.Comment
