    Repro Accessories

I'm new to Mego, so forgive me. But I've noticed Mego collectors are pretty OK for the most part with repro items. As opposed to the Star Wars community. They were nuts on me when I asked them their opinion on repro stuff.

Are there a great deal of people in the Mego community who hate repro stuff?

I get more joy of owning a Mego with original parts. But sometimes I'll have to bite the bullet to complete a Mego.

I will always put a repro piece on an original figure until I can locate an original piece. I'd rather it display nicely but would much rather have a complete looking piece instead of a figure missing one boot. The hunt is the thrill for me. I rarely pay top dollar for a piece. I waited 3 years to get my Wondergirl at an affordable price but did. It's the last piece I needed other than the AE figures. Some are definitely against repro's and remakes. Some say it hurts the price of originals. I say it sorts out the die hards from the casual collector. I think I fall in the middle somewhere. It's OK for a fill in.
It's not a doll it's an action figure.

Yes as long as it's complete I've got no problem (I'm going to be keeping it anyway)

Once I find my stash of Megos

I will not have a problems displaying them with repro parts. Their value to me is purely sentimental.

I just can't seem to find them. I thought sure I had them in the attic. I know they are around here somewhere.

I only have a handful of repro accessories in my collection, but I agree. They are ok with me as placeholders until an original accessory comes along. For some reason, I'm most indifferent about emblems. I just make sure to follow the rule of disclosing any repro when I sell stuff.

Disclosure when selling is the most important thing.

I have no problem with the repros either, but I will also upgrade my figures if I find original parts for them.
My RC Batman, and regular Batman, both have original gloves, boots, and capes now. That wasn't the case in the beginning.
Their emblems unfortunately will always be repros, unless I buy a mint figure, but I don't have that kind of money.

The repro stuff is also great for the figures that me and my kids actually play with. You don't have to worry about ruining the repro stuff!

Anything is better than seeing that Batman figure sitting there being cold with no gloves or boots.I just like the look of the completed figure, repro or original doesn't matter to me.

I have lots of repro parts. I use them mainly for customizing and trading to those that like them.

For my own personal collection I do not have any repro parts at all. I am pretty picky when it comes to my own personal collection.

My secondary collection for posing purposes may contain a repro piece here or there at times.

I am always sure to note any repro pieces and disclose them whenever there may be an interest in a trade or possible sale. Honesty is the only policy where I come from.

The sad reality is that there are more vintage MEGOS than there
are parts to go with them - especially the more popular lines
like Star Trek, Apes, and Superheroes.

Without quality repro parts available, this hobby breaks down into
the high rollers and the have nots. Before I started making
replacement parts, guys here were using plastic milk tabs as
belts and PAINTING VINTAGE ANDORIAN BOOTS for comic accurate
                    Captain America boots.

Since I'm gonna play w/ them anyway, I don't care. I love getting repro parts! Lots of my figures are done w/ repro, like Batman, Robin and Superman, as well as others. I'm not in this hobby as an investment, I'm in it for fun!

I can appreciate the perspective of wanting a reproduction piece for completing a figure that will be displayed or played with, and even more so if the new round of kids will be playing with it.

I used to have more acceptance of reproduction parts in my own collection, but then I shifted away from that because I didn't really like the look. Now I see "repros" as something that I have to battle in order to get what I want in my collection.

The biggest issue for me surrounds the factory-made unmarked reproduction parts that are in circulation. I don't think I need to explain why that's a major obstacle.

The last time we discussed this was in this thread about five months ago.

Like any hobby, there will be supporters and there will be detractors.

I think it's more accepted in the Mego community for a couple reasons

                            - As Doc stated, parts availability is pretty sparce. You're just lazy if you can't get a real SW accessory. Want an original Green Arrow quiver or Supergirl Boots for your nice display figure? Good luck.
                            - The vast majority of parts are either marked or obviously not original due to color variations. You can't hide a Batman Cape or Gloves in fuzzy pictures in an ebay lot.
                            - There's not as much money at stake. So many more people collect SW, people who aren't toy collectors, and the prices for certain pieces like a DT Luke or Vinyl Cape Jawa it makes it much more interesting to pray on people. High grade Mego stuff is usually carded or sealed so big investments are more protected in this community.

                            That's my thoughts, anyway.

I have so Much Repo Stuff in My Collection from Doc and Others.
Paying Top Bucks for an All Origional Piece is not my Game.
I want that Guy Complete, and to be able to play with him, complete.
To Be Honest ..., I only have a few, all Origonal Pieces, but I am Pretty Confident to High End Collectors they Mean Nothing, but it somewhat does to me.
