I just thought they were Super-heroes. I didn't know the distinction between Marvel or DC at first and assumed they were all together.
As I got older and my Mego's were gone I would refer to them as those clothed super hero figures. Then I discovered the company name Mego.
I thought it was pronounced like Lego with an M.
Then I discovered the Museum and it all fell in to place.

Action Jacksons and Lainie. But I knew what company made them. I was really into the commercials."Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."

Me too! The Batcave commercial is still my favorite. "Mego" always preceded the item. As in "have you seen my Mego Superman" or "I want the Mego Phaser Battle Game, please!" CAH, though I didn't refer to as Mego, they were "little". As in "where is my little Superman?" Only the 8" figures and playsets/games did I state the company name before hand. Odd, huh?But I knew what company made them. I was really into the commercials. It's all good!Comment

I called them my Super Hero Dolls. In fact, I called any so called "action figure" with removable clothing a "doll"--GI Joe dolls, Big Jim dolls etc etc. Any smaller figure like star wars without removable clothing I called action figures....I don't know anybody back in the day who referred to them as Megos.....Comment

i think i just called them "guys", and i really don't remember making the connection treks, apes, and wgsh were all made by the same company, i think i just thought that's how all "big" toys were made, i never mixed joes, big jim, or even megos... but i guess i was just to young to realize a compamy made toys, they just came from the store and that was that
then micronauts was just a different kind of toy because they had all the connecting parts, i thought of them more like an erector set or something
then i saw star wars action figures and i just couldn't understand why they were so small and didn't have clothes. it wasn't until all of the star wars vehicles and play sets came out that i got why they were so small
i'm speaking of being like age 3 to about 10, after that i found out about different toy makers and whatnot...from then on i knew my favorite toys were called me-goes

I called them whatever my mom, sisters, and brothers would call them, their 'names' for my toys are what I can still hear in my head:
"Superheroes" "Apes" "Star Treks" "He-Man Guys" "Army Guys" "Monster Men" "Men" "Robots"...etc...etc...

My brothers circa 1975: "No WAY dude, you think those 'Ape Guys' would have a chance against my 'Japan Robots'??

There is a shot of my brother Pete at age 8 or so (he is in his late 40s now..) and he has a big milk moustache and is standing in front of his Joe/AT stuff. I remember being small and thinking that the jeep/tank was the size of a friggin CHAIR, and will never forget the story that my mum likes to tell about how they (Pete and Dan) put a few of their AT Joes into the DRYER to simulate some kind of "mission"....their flocking gave-way and the plastic malformed...my brothers were CRUSHED and cried their eyes out for their 'fallen comrades'!
