Thoughts on de-greying?

It's still somewhat available around here, but only in limited colors. Fortunately, red is one of them.

I tried the Plasti-Dip/Tire Wet method utilizing both red and yellow. Spend two weeks doing it on a Ponch head.

He managed to last for a year before it went back to gray. It does work but for a limited time. The paint on the hair and eyebrows came off a little but since it was for a custom I didn't mind.
Needless to say I abandon that custom all together.

I never realized it was you that wrote that, generic. That's pretty cool--very informative stuff. A question or two, though: did you discover that method yourself, and if so, how did it even occur to you? Was it a trial and error type of thing, or did a light just go off in your head? I've always wondered, because I know that would have never even occurred to me to attempt.

At any rate, having weighed the pros and cons from you guys, I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and live with it, despite hating the way they look. The main factor that swayed me away from de-greying is the risk of inadvertent paint removal, honestly. I appreciate all the input, brain trust!

Yep, it was me. The tutorial was originally published on The 3 A-Megos website that ChrisDVM and I neglect together (it's actually still there along with my re-stringing tutorial that is also featured on the Mego Museum). In the early 2000s we put a lot of work into The 3 A-Megos site, but as the Mego Museum grew and became more complete, there seemed to be less of a need for our site, so I don't think it's been updated since 2005 or so.

I am not the originator of the idea of De-greying. It's been so long that I honestly have no idea who told me about it, but I thought that the information should be published online for all to read. I'm really just the scribe, not the brains behind the procedure.
