    Thoughts on de-greying?

If you had a MIB Buck Rogers or ST:TMP Spock, would you let it ride if their heads were zombified? I'm really torn between making them look better and just accepting it as a fact we have to deal with when it comes to certain Megos, even if they've never been removed from their boxes.

Your thoughts on the matter? I'm curious to hear what every perspective has to say on this.

Yes, it is possible to degrey heads but I haven't tried it yet. I've just accepted the fact that my set of 12" Black Hole and Star Trek figures have grey heads and learned to live with it, considering that the vast majority of the examples of these figures out there look the same or worse. With Buck it's different because non-greying heads can be found for that figure, so I searched one out, but with all the figures in the ST:TMP and BH lines, you either have figures with grey heads or figures with potential grey heads unless you store them away in the dark forever and what fun is it collecting in that manner? (though I admit that I have a Kirk and Decker and a Moonraker Holly with nice heads that are stored away for that reason). I do have some spare Black Hole figures that I might try degreying just to experiment on though.

You can degrey, but it is not guaranteed to last. Some of that plastic just wants to be grey.

However, if I had a figure I enjoyed (and I am a loose collector - so it would be out in the open) I would probably try to get it back to a normal color and just realize I would potentially need to dip it every couple of years or so.

I had a Mr. Fantastic that was zombified and the plasti-dip method had some impressive results that were sadly, short-lasted.

at my house, after a chemical induced headache, lungburn, etc..Ponch was nice and fleshy, then he off-put toxins for awhile, then went back to his former gray self..I say dont waste your time, just my humble opinion

man i hate the gray look so much, i really think it takes the fun out of the look of these great colorful figures,

boxed: i would open and try to fix

carded: (i know the figs in question are not carded) i guess i would leave alone

              k.c.

Both Buck and Spock aren't crazy rare so it's worth giving it a try.

you can do a rit dye job that will last for a year or so - kinda depends on how grey they were to start with. When they start looking too pasty, do the dye job again.

Never tried the RIT method. How is that done? I've used the Tire Wet/PlastiDip route and it worked well. I've been watching the figures I treated to see if they go back.

One point that hasn't been mentioned in this thread is that if you do use the Tire Wet/PlastiDip method on the 12" Trek guys, there is a chance that you will remove a bit of the paint (particularly on the eyebrows).

I really should have mentioned that in my tutorial, but I wrote it and took those photos over 10 years ago and at the time, most the figures that I was de-greying were all very common, so I didn't think much of it.

I also learned years after writing the tutorial that the method often doesn't last over the years. At the time that I first posted the tutorial, none of the heads had gone back to being grey yet. Regardless, I quite enjoyed the process, so I don't feel like it was a waste of time and I did have nice Mego heads for several years after the process.
Nostalgia just ain’t what it used to be.

I had a 12" Spock for a while, fairly grayed, actually looking for one again. I sort of liked him grayed.. If the process doesn't last, I wouldn't even try it.

I also had a slightly grayed Tom Baker head, I SHOULD have kept him, it looked better than the non-grayed heads. Don't ask me why..

Hmmm, if he is put back in a window box, he may off-put chemicals and cloud the window
