It wasn't for the movie, it was some what of a strategic move. Paramount was trying to tell Mego they didn't have the license to Star Trek, that the motion picture was seperate (which is common now, then not so much) so Mego started flooding the marketplace with tv product.

I do love how the "Star Trek" is a crude version of the card logo.

As I recall, My parents bought me one of those, it had a Kirk and Spock figures in or on outside of box, it was missing the console and 2 chairs, I do not remember it being in box but on the outside of it it was wrapped and picture of kirk and spock face, I cut those pictures and put them into frames which i still have to this day. It was sold at Valley fair here in New Jersey wayyyy back in the day. I remember seeing those in the store. and mine had the clasp and transporter, viewscreens, just not the consol and 2 chairs,

That is wild! Thx for sharing. I luv behind the scenes info like that. Mego has such a lush history. I'm sure the Retro Mego boyz have stories that could fill a book too.
If a Mego figure of God did not exist, it would be necessary for EMCE to invent him.

If I recall correctly, the pitures were the regular classic of Mr. Spock pointing his phaser outside the shuttlecraft. and the kirk one was of him sitting in his chair with one hand to his chin. I still have them cut out someplace.(wonder where, damn now I have too look for them) The sets were availible at Alexanders Dept store for about 2.99 or 3.99. it came without a transporter, so the holes on top showed and the cabinet. The figures came loose, To this day, I don't know how to tell them apart from the regular figures. Does anyone here know? I have 2 spocks and I think one is from this set.

Seems, like Mego dumped all the left overs on those sets. Some had trasporters, some did not, some had furniture, some did not. Maybe that is why they included the 2 figures. Miss those days so many great toys.

I agree, the days of old ,, toys were so much better,,less batteries, more imagination, less paint cancer scares, more imagination,, companpanies just donlt dump all left over items like they used to do, look at the star wars figures, nowadays, repackaging is the way to go, tho there were times when they will put 2-4 figures in a "pack" if there is too many left over when a new line comes out.
