The Great Star Trek Clearance of 1980

For years, many Mego Museum members have talked of the "Clearance Star Trek" set which included usually Kirk and Spock figures shrunk wrapped into a Bridge Playset, the playset was normally missing the transporter unit meaning it was a factory leftover of some sort.

Well, finally we have some print evidence of this item, taken from this December 1980 newspaper ad. At $5.00 this was a steal of a deal.

Hopefully one of these sets surfaces someday.

My buddy at work told me about having one of these, I think he got it at a Furr's supermarket. He thinks he may still have it, but you know how that goes. Very cool and odd.

I had this set and yes, the transporter was missing. The one I got had carded versions of Kirk and Spoick though. Don't think it came with bridge furniture either

I had this too, unfortunately! It had very little play value because the best part was missing - the transporter!

Question ... If the transporter is gone, does its vinyl "closet" still remain ? ... and if so is it just black inside ?

I was heavy in to Star Trek collecting in the mid 80's and 90's,
and never saw a shrinkwrapped set before. I can only guess it was like the Captain Eagle/AJ sets.

This would be exactly a year after ST-TMP underwhelmed audiences,
so I wonder how sales were.

Nonetheless, it's very cool to see the ad, though.

Beakers got a bunch of Enterprise Playsets with no transporter , accessories. handle or Locking hard wear.and was sealed with a wrap around white paper
                    printed with "Star trek playset".

We purchased one to replace a crushed original playset (4 boys... we were hard on our toys). Ours did have furniture. The vinyl closet was there, and when we slapped in the transporter from the old Enterprise playset, it was just like new.

If i wasn't so heavy into The Empire Strikes Back at the time,I would have been all over this.

The illustration is great. I didn't realize Mego pioneered pop culture bobbleheads.

Could this add be referring to the 3 3/4" Star Trek: The Motion Picture figures? I would think the cloth version Star Trek figures would be long off the shelves by 1980.
If a Mego figure of God did not exist, it would be necessary for EMCE to invent him.

Mego brought the 8" treks back in 1979 for a brief time.
