Mego-ey or realistic?

I look at something like the new Star Trek figures EMCE did. They are new sculpts but look like something Mego could have done in the 70s. I really like that.

For me this is not about Mattel or what is defined as realism. I like a retro look. I want a Mego like figure that looks like it was made in the 70s. I don't like modern looking as much. I prefer something that looks like it was made in the 70s over something that looks like a shrunk down Sideshow or Hot Toys doll. There is no right or wrong answer to this. It's all a matter of personal taste.

Nor was I picking on your personal taste. But it's been noted that Mattel has rejected Sculpts that they didn't feel were "Megoey" enough. Which I thought John made an excellent point...Mego wouldn't have rejected a Sculpt because it was too good! If fact, some of their Sculpts were FANTASTIC likenesses! So I guess I don't unstand why Mattel feels Mego=silly looking.

Yes, back to the topic at hand...

For me personally, my customs often reflect what I wished Mego had done instead, i.e. Batman without 'ovenmits' but better removable gloves & back to the removable cowl, but better fitting with longer ears...
or a Captain America with a more accurate suit....
That's where my head was back then.

So now, when I sit down to customize, or as I see it, 'accurize' my megos, I come up with something closer to what I'd wanted back then, but didn't possess the skills as a child to make it that way (although that didn't stop me from trying.)

Now as an adult, I find myself enjoying those 'ovenmits' in a way I never did as a kid, so my collection has turned into more of a 'Batman as he was' alongside a 'Batman as I would've wanted'.

Nostalgia all around for me!

i am more old school,the closer it looks to mego the better,like the emce stuff,and the dc superheros do have that look,as do the cast-a-way figures,to me emce,and the figures that have emce bodies are as close as you can get,as for customs ,some people have a real talent,so they can be included ,its just a shame that when they do a custom,its one or two of the figures that they can produce,their not a toy company,which is a shame,i have seen some very nice figures that they have done.they would be awesome at toys r us

InWhich was also riddled with contradictions in itself to some degree. You stick up for someone's Opinion, but then yet slander someone Else's opinion that they are Mego Like Dolls ... , Cloth clothes, rubber doll heads, Doll and don't look like they are from the 70's. In a Thread where Hot Toys and many figures were discussed. They are very much the same formate imo, however 1 is marketed towards Boys/Collectors and the Other is clearly marketed towards Girls. A different formate would suggest a different type of toy or scale . It's difficult to me to even value your Opinion the way it was written, even more so with the "peanut gallery" comment suggesting that someone that you disagree with has a smaller brain than you in your post, which is clearly name calling, and can be viewed as unfriendly.

Make No Mistake, it takes alot for me to even get offended by anything, even more so in cyberspace these days , however before you try and police your thread for whatever reason , Know what is being discussed and understand The difference between Debate and an Attack.

To be clear, before I stop drifting in my own thread, I wasn't calling anyone names. But as I said, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, w/o being singled out for what they like, don't like, prefer, or what have you. I started this thread as a point of preference, and to learn something about my fellow Mego-heads. But when it turns unfriendly, I have to speak on it.

We really don't need to resort to nitpicking b/c someone has a difference of opinion and doesn't share your point of view. Werewolf is right, there is no right or wrong answer to this question. The Monster High dolls really have nothing to do w/ Megos, b/c they're a lot of dolls that have removable clothing. They may be roughly the same height, but they're not the same format. We can all like what we want and have our own preferences, (as this thread proves), and should be able to do so w/o comments from the peanut gallery.
