MEGO Tarzan was a let down in 74

I remember hearing about mego Tarzan before seeing him. I couldn't wait to get one. I was a big Tarzan fan thanks to my Uncle John, who lived upstairs in our house. We watched Tarzan together all of the time. Even before mego did Tarzan I had an AJ with just loin cloth my Uncle put together for me. He had a knife but I don't remember where that came from. My dad got the mego Tarzan as soon as it came out but it got set aside. I all ready had a better one.

Never saw him as a kid, either. I think I would have loved him since Tarzan was a staple on TV at the time.

MEGO Tarzan was based on the DC comic -with art by Kubert but I think
the inker had a heavy hand giving the finished art a different look.

I'm 100% certain that has to be a He-Man Battle Cat in black. Anyone know what the first use of this mold was?? I doesn't make much sense for them to sculpt out a tiger if they're putting it in as a black panther toy.

The Tarzan black panther started out as a Big Jim tiger, and you're right... Mattel would later re-use the mold for both Battle Cat and Panthor in the MOTU line.

Same with the Big Jim eagle...it ended up as Zoar and Screech in MOTU.
