I've been doing this too. I think my job is ok, but these are weird times and nothing is ever for sure anyway. I've had friends and family with supposedly secure jobs get the axe over the last year or so. I've found myself passing on things recently that I would have snapped up in a second a few years ago. I think I'll stick to the cheap stuff for awhile (and the occasional really good deal).

I think the "bubble" burst on many different collectible items when the economy went poof! Prices on many things became overly inflated just like in real estate. I see it with vintage muscle cars, vintage motorcycles, vintage toys, etc. But also people jump in and out of different hobbies. I know I do. I am new to collecting MEGOs so someone has to be selling for me to be buying. In a year, two, ten, the roles will reverse. Trying to gauge the market on whether something will go up or down in value is like playing the stock market. Good luck! I collect things I enjoy. If I can get my money, or even a profit, back out of them then I may sell to move on top something else. If the market stinks then I will hold off selling rather then lose money.

This is just how I am. Everyone sees things in a different light. Of course I am sure there are folks who have to sell due to a job loss or similar bad circumstances but that has less to do with what they collect then the situation they are currently in.

With both of these statements in mind, I wonder how "Robot Chicken" will affect the future of Megos. Even though many kids watching the show when it first came on had never heard of Megos, there's the chance that the show may create a nostalgic fondness for Mego toys.

I know that when I first started collecting Megos in the late 90s, I never knew about the Knights, Robin Hood, Pirates, West, Starsky and Hutch, Happy Days (besides Fonz) or Monsters, but I've added figures for every one of those lines into my collection. It wasn't about the nostalgia of playing with any of those figures, it was about the overall vibe of the figures because of the ones I did have as a kid. Maybe Robot Chicken will create a similar situation...or maybe not!
Nostalgia just ain’t what it used to be.
