The Prototype Starsky and Hutch Torino

Todays Update: Sample Shots of the MegoStarsky and Hutch Torino.

At first glance, it looks like the one we all know and love but upon further inspection we realize that it's actually an early, unreleased version. Click the photo to see more.

Looks like the prototype couldn't fit a windshield because of the steering wheel

I agree with Azrak. This looks like car designed for a 3 3/4 inch figure.

Yeah, it looks matchbox size to me.

That would have been cool to chase the general lee.Looks like a 3-3/4 version.

Looks can be deceiving but I've gone ahead and asked for further clarification in the meantime.

One of the things I've learned from talking to Vinnie was that the Comic Action Heroes formula was something they were thinking of expanding into all their licenses, so it's entirely possible this car was meant for that.

The possibility occurred to me because I have a vague memory of having wheels like that on a smaller car when I was a kid. It seems odd that they would tool 8" scale wheels like that, and then not use them. I've never seen wheels like that for 8" scale, and I used to be pretty heavy into vehicles. It does have a 3 3/4 vibe to it, but like you said without something for comparison it's hard to say.

Just got confirmation from Vinny, this is an early prototype for the 8" dolls.

Hmmmm. I'm glad they went a different direction. The battery powered one looks much better (design wise). Plus the doors open. Very cool though to see the process! Thanks for the pic.

Prototype or not, this is one sweet looking ride!

And how could you possibly tell the size of the car unless a figure was in it, or standing right next to it?

Tomorrow we have a Starsky and Hutch toy that didn't make it to market but really, really should have.

It still amazes me Mego didn't revive this mold for a General Lee. Especially since they were desperate for cash back then. With little effort, it would have been akin to printing money.
