Not only will prices drop because of the doubt and uncertainty about repro parts, but they'll also drop because many collectors will settle for completely repro figures, leaving less competition for original ones. That's why even mint boxed and carded original figures would take a hit.

I could also see some of the common carded original figures taking a hit, like Hulk, Spidey, Robin, Batman, etc. There is a large supply of original carded figures, and even a small dip in demand could cause prices to fall.

The rare carded WGSH, however, are driven by both supply and demand (and the whim of the few people who are guarding these treasures (e.g. Mark Huckabone)), so I am not so sure that carded rarities will be affected by repros.

Of course. For the rarest carded figures, your average Mego collector has never been part of the equation.

          Yes, good point, Ant.

And when Mark or whoever else entertains offers for a carded Ironman or a carded Green Arrow, for example, the price has always been and will always be whatever the potential buyer is willing to pay.

I kind of hope the WGSH are reproduced and the price of loose, original pieces do drop. Such an occurrence wouldn't make my stuff any less original or valuable to me and maybe I'd be able to score some stuff that I can't currently justify buying. I seek out vintage, original items to satisfy myself, not other collectors.

I've never thought of my collection as a serious investment or an asset that I could count on apreciating... if it does so, great, but if not, thats great also. I view my hobby as an exercise in nostalgia as opposed to financial planning.

Could not have said this better myself. I have cashed in from time to time when I have received an offer I can't refuse or I want to turn my collection in a different direction, but I do not count on being able to do so indefinitely.

Exactly. If one is holding on to their collection just to "cash in" when they retire, they will probably be in for a rude awakening. Collectibles are a terrible long term investment, you never know the whims of collectors over the course of decades (just ask any stamp or coin collector). But collecting vintage because you enjoy the nostalgia and being able to flip pieces over the short term once in a while to improve or change your collection is cool.

I'd say the prices are definately going up at the moment. I just got The Thing for $50. When I started collecting Megos, his average price was around $35.
