Some of you may remember that Wee67 and I went to the old Mego Warehouse on Long Island a couple of years ago.
While it was a great trip overall and the experience of being "on the inside" of the warehouse was phenomenal, we were disappointed to find that the mural in that building (which spanned the entire back wall of the back building) was not Mego related at all.
What we learned is that the actual mural we were seeking was in the building next door which was at one time owned by Mego but was now occupied by another company.
I followed up with that company and spoke to the real estate people, etc. etc. and in short they acknowledged that there was a licensed artwork mural there in the break room but would not give us permission to see it.
Fast forward to yesterday when I was introduced to someone by a mutual friend that works for the company that owns the building. I talked to her this morning and she agreed to reach out to some people she knows and ask them about it.
Sadly, she called me back a few minutes ago and told me that she was told the mural is no longer there. Apparently it was painted over back in the 1990's by the company that bought the company after Mego.
I'm very saddened by this as I'm sure all of you are as well. Our only hope is that perhaps the person she spoke with is mistaken. She is going to contact some people in the building and see if they will double check. She is also going to ask them to be on the lookout for any signs of Mego Corporation in the facility itself. You may recall that last time at the other building the building manager found old Mego stamps on the wall that he had never seen before so maybe all hope is not lost.
Thought you would like to know!
