Mego Backdrop Dida Displays Part2--Opinions needed

A couple days ago I asked for opinions on some simple vinyl backdrops in Mego playset style Mego display backdrops - Mego Talk

This is a slightly more complicated style that has a floor component (this floor is plain, but it can have artwork as well.). The whole thing unfolds and snaps together in one easy step. Then you can fold it up and snap it closed for storage or transport.

I'm curious as to whether or not you think the fold up snap together aspect is useful enough or cool enough to bother with. To me, it's a cool gimmick, very Mego-ey, takes a backdrop and gives it a little wow factor, but it's more complicated and more expensive.

It adds expense in parts and labor, if the simple ones go for $13 I think this would have to go for $28.

    Thanks for you input!

You could also compare this to the Tri-box Stage I made, where the backdrop can be turned into a Carrying Case. This is a lot more work to make and more work to put together. I don't think most of us actually carry our figures anywhere, so the utility of this design is questionable.

I think having a nice printed floor that compliments the design is worth the extra cash.

I Love the way that Backdrop looks. The floor would be a great addition.

To me, the snapability of the case isn't worth the added cost. As long as it still folds down, that's good enough for me. While the snap would hold everything shut, doesn't it add extra bulk that wouldn't allow you to stack these things when they're flat?

Indeed it would, yes. The snap not so much, but the floor piece adds bulk to it so it doesn't fold as flat as it might, but it's not all that bad.

Well, since I have a stage set, (Batcave) and a Tri-box, (POTA), I think for space, and quick convenience w/o having to deal w/ snaps, I'd get a couple of backdrops.

Having the option of a floor is definitely worth the extra.

The floor definitely adds more detail to the backdrop, especially with some artwork on it. It's worth the extra cash to me

The floor is neat, but I like the first version without flooring, mostly because I'm not confined to a certain angle for it's opened version.

The first version allows for an |_ _ shape formation, a \ _ / formation or even |_| formation to allow for different sized shelves. In fact, you can buy two and set them up side by side| _ _ _ _ | for a larger shelf.

Since they would be "backdrops" and not a "playset" a plain black back on the reversed side of the artwork would be no issue.

Plus at the lower cost, and smaller size, I can see these being marketed at any toy show for use with Marvel legends, DC Superheroes, Masters of the Universe, Star Wars, DC Infinite Heroes, Marvel Universe Heroes, Smurfs (new movie coming), Anime & Video Game figures, movie figures, etc.

No one mass markets generic carrying cases anymore (you remember, the old vinyl Star Worlds cases) and no one makes generic backdrops/display sets out of good old fashioned laminated cardboard/vinyl! Dida could cash in big.

I have to agree. Speaking as one who doesn't own any Didas, but wants to (I'd like to get a Star Trek bridge but can't afford it at the moment), the lower cost and ability to have different formations makes them appealing. And it adds diversity to the line. I think LadyZod is right: while the floor and snaps makes them more Mego-ey, not having them could hold more appeal for display with other toys (and still include Mego). Not sure how interested you'd be in pursuing that path, but I think there'd be strong interest from people who collect non-Mego action figures. And that's a big market from which to have a revenue stream. In this sense they'd be more like the stuff JDP does, but with the added benefit of switch-able artwork:

They may have started life as factory seconds, but they could be a really unique and viable addition to the Dida line!

If the fold outs are 13 bucks and can be made to insert artwork, one could purchase two of them and use one as a floor for less than the snapping one with the built in floor. That is, if you wanted the floor.

I do love the idea for a carrying case tho. Gets me happy with that captain action sort of feel it has to it.

I think the "bookcase backdrop" is the perfect idea for non-playset display (but I've mentioned that to you before). The floor is cool, but I think that you have a lot more potential with the simple backdrops.

I'm excited about a "bookcase backdrop" as well. How soon can I order a couple?

I'm fantasizing about Wayne library/den and a Batcave.
