I prefered and still prefer the boxes. I got my first Batman, Superman, Robin, Penguin and Joker in boxes. I later got a few carded figures. A replacement Penguin, Hulk, Superman on cards....then the huge 1980ish find of boxed GA, Catwoman and Aquaman. My Falcon came from Heroes World in a bubble envelope with no packaging at all.
Heroes world had BARRELS full of penguins and Falcons in baggies toward the end of the run. for a buck a pop I might add and cry.
Being the majority of my figs were Trek and Apes, I only had 2 figs ever in boxes, Batman and Superman. As a kis i used them as "Telephone booths" for quick change action. all the rest came carded, Shazam, Hulk,ETC.....
I remember an abundance of both styles at the Child World I used to buy Megos at. The carded figures were obviosuly pegged and the baseboard shelf has numerous boxed figures. I used to have to buy both because some characters were only available in a box as I remember (Green Goblin, Lizard, Riddler, etc). So I basically bought both boxed and carded as needed.
I was a little bothered when my Megos started coming on cards. I really liked being able to put them pack in the packages when I was done playing with them. I remember trying to open the cards' bubble only so much as to get the figure out. That system never really worked, though.

Yeah, I kind of resented them a little too. I missed the boxes and their cut outs. Also the back of the cards showed figures i NEVER saw at retail which drove me crazy!
As an adult, I think the retro action has a better chance on cards than they do in boxes.
