I love Batman more every time I see him. Here's to hoping we get a Robin to go with him eventually.

It's like the sculptor of all these figures has a fetish for making stupid looking Eric Stoltz as MASK chins.

Batman and aquaman look like they stepped right off the super friends which mean zero complaints from me.

        Two face looks amazing!

Again, not begrudging anyone their opinion, but if I can express my own:

RETRO-Action guys. It's supposed to look RETRO. Batman's look in the 70s on most merchandise was still heavily influenced by the 60s show. Just look at Mego's offerings. If it looked like Jim Lee designed it, it would be wrong for what they are trying to accomplish. Neal Adams may have worked, but may have stuck out given the look of the other figures. The head looks a lot like Alex Toth's Super Friends design, which is wholly appropriate. Two-Face doesn't look like an actual burn victim, and Batman doesn't look like an obsessed loner vigilante. The look fits the times.

DC Direct and Mattel make tons of modern-looking Batmen every year. And my bet is they are sticking with the retro feel of this line, in part not to cannibalize on the 13" DCDs and other licensees with cloth costumed DC figures (Hot Toys, Tonner).

As a fan of the history of Batman, I appreciate the old-school look.

I'm really happy with the inclusion of Two-Face, less so with Black Manta, but I'll still end up getting one I'm sure.

One thing tho: everyone keeps going about Batman having a removable cowl, but to me it looks like the cowl is molded and there's in fact 2 different sculpts: a Batman sculpt and a Bruce Wayne sculpt. I'm probably wrong, but that's what it looks like to me. The head with the cowl on looks almost the same size as the others, with a RC cowl on shouldn't it be a lot bigger?

Either way, I'm buying multiples of each
The more I look at the pics the more I'm convinced its 2 different heads.

I agree. I believe it to be two heads as well.

                Toy Fair 2010 Gallery/mattel/mattel-dc-retro-action-and-zod

To me, the Batman "Cowl Head" would look good if the bottom of the cowl were more tapered to the neck. It's too "blocky" at the bottom. It's unnatural. I put my fingers up to cover the bottom of his head to thin it a little and it actually looked pretty good.

I like the Aquaman choice and head sculpt, but I think that the Aquaman scales on the suit are a bit too stark in contrast with the orange. It stands out too boldly. Maybe a softer black (flat) , even charcoal or darker orange could look better. Who knows?! Did anyone notice any leg fins?

Black Manta is awesome!!! Love him!

Two Face is not one of my favorite Batman enemies, but I will definitely buy him as well. It has a very good head sculpt. Not sure about the grey hair though. I also think the suit could be better if one side were striped/checkered or in some way textured a little, instead of simply being two different colors.

Over all, I am still extremely excited and can't wait for the "WAVE" of Wave 1 to reach the East Coast TRU stores. Looking forward to taking my 4 year old to the store to see them. I know I'm a dork, but I am even taking my camera to take pics of the displays as well as my son gazing at them!!

                So excited!!

The prototype heads generally don't fit on the bodies as well as the final ones. The batman w/cowl may look much better if its tight fitting onto the body.

                    Removeable cowl

Batman will have a removeable cowl, but the sample from the factory
was all black, so in order to avoid confusion, they showed the head
and mask as one, and the Bruce Wayne sculpt.

All 4 of wave 2 will be at Toys R Us.

As for compliants - I would rather hear them now and show them
to Mattel, then wait until the line is cancelled, then discuss what
                    we didn't like.

Just fix the bodies, as for the rest, don't change a thing. Seeing the first 9 figures together, I'm really liking the "retro" part of the line's name.

I just wish they would make the cuffs tighter around the wrists, then they wouldn't look so bulky. It would give more of the illusion that they're wearing gloves. It doesn't help that the cuffs are sewn into the fabric. I tried to take them off so I can make it a tighter fit. Even so, I will buy these because it will be the first time I can afford to buy all the figs I couldn't back in the day.

I'm still torn with these. I may be the only one here that feels this way but even as a youngster back in the day when I owned a few, I saw the potential for them to look more realistic. I knew even then Mego could do better. As I've said in earlier posts, those dreams were realized through many customizers here and abroad.

A lot of people say that to make them 3 dimensional isn't Mego. They're supposed to be cartoon - like. It's part of their charm. That's what drove me crazy. Still, it's better than nothing at all and overall I'm glad they're back. I'm very curious to see what the females will look like.

Can you make the gauntlets shorter? It looks like they go all the way to the elbow.

I concur with this. A little shorter and then tighter around the wrists and these will be even better, otherwise they will look as awkward as the oven mitts did IMHO. Maybe not sewing the gauntlets into the fabric may help too.
